This story follows Prvt Sowoffard ( Gyllenhaal ) through boot camp to the desserts of the middle east and the aclimatisation they have to go through to live in the blistering conditions of that region ,as my title suggests we are taken along for the ride to witness what it is to be in the army, to go in to a foreign land, not knowing what you may encounter ffom one day to the next, and the way it affects different people

  TV at best...

Saw this at the cinema and have to say thought it was shocking! At best this would make an average documentary on TV that maybe a few select people could watch, but if your looking for a film this is not it. Big fan of some of the actors in this film but sadly I thought it was slow, boring and generally lacking any real substance.

  I Love This Film

This film is full of action, and i found it very engaging and kept wanting more. shows a great inside of a soldiers life at war. I personally think this film is a must have for anyone who likes the life of a soldier in modern warfare, and the stress and strains in which they go through. The only part i didnt like was when the credits came on.

Exellant film, really enjoyed it. It's a great war film, best one so far. It was really good when they are all training to fight agaist the iraqueys. Now i really want to see some more war films. I like the music at the end.

Enjoyed seein a different perspective of war for a change but was a little disappointed so see no major action.. Still entertaining and jamie foxx once again proving how good an actor he is!!almost as good a performance as any given sunday, if only he had a few more lines!!
A good watch for a rainy day!

Jarhead deals with the issues the plagued soldiers during the Gulf War, which wasn't the presence of the enemy but by the intolerance of loneliness brought on by their isolation during their stay in the middle-east.
This is a war movie that deals not on the physical violence but the psychological torture the marines had to endure on a daily basis that drove them on the border of insanity.
It's not a war film that indulges on violence. It essentially can be classified as a drama/thriller film that explores the depth of the human mind, just confined within the setting of a military context.
It is a 'war movie', but the real enemy isn't the opposition with guns but something that even the toughest of marines can't avoid - loneliness.

  Don't bother

Weak story, terrible film. This is probably the worst film i have ever seen.

I read the book about a year before the film release, and I enjoyed every page of it The film however, reflects the book pretty well, but only a fraction of it. There is no way to put everything from the book in the film, but the director have made a good effort on following the book.
This however, is not a war film, is more about somebody's experience in the Golf war, a story about how much somebody have to go through, physically and mentally, to achieve nothing, because no one give him the chance to demonstrate his true skills.
Also, the book is much more than this, and is a true story, I really recommend the read, but watch the film too, not expecting any more action than in Teletubies, because like I said, is not really a war film.
