My brother and father had been banging on about this series called Boston Legal. I just kept thinking "yeh, yeh, I'll get round to it sometime."

Sometime came and finally sat down a couple of weeks ago (with some trepidation) to watch Season One with my wife. We are now hooked. It has been in our DVD player since we started and we are already half way through Season 2. The only bad thing is that we'll have to wait for Season 3!!

OK, some of the humour may be a bit dark for some but the humour is what makes it. They also cover some tougher topics in places at times too (most notably Alzheimers) with wit and understanding but without the usual American sentimentality.

It would be easy to pick out James Spader and William Shatner as they play their characters with great humour and skill, but all of the cast but all characters are well scripted and crafted by the actors in the cast.

Prepare to lose your evenings....

Denny Crane, lock and load.

I bought this originally on the back of a couple of trailers I had seen on the television and an interest in James Spader who has throughout his career played quirky dark roles.

Popped the first disk into the player and settled back not quite knowing what to expect. It's fast, very sophisticated and with dark dark humour that I absolutely adore. There are few series that compare to the quality of writing here, it is as dark as Six Feet Under and as sarcastic as House

James Spader's character is played to perfection - intelligent, cruel and above all morally correct, if not ethical in a legal sense. He does wonderful and horrific things in equal measure and even when he is in the wrong it's always for the right reason. He is both charming and distant. William Shatner plays the senior partner and is a joy to behold - you think you will never get passed the image of Kirk in a suit but he plays Denny Crane to perfection. Their friendship is the central relationship of the series and is often very poignant. With Shatner's character's aware that he is not the man he once was and coming to terms with his decline.

This is legal Drama/Comedy with a soul., The subjects addressed are often very politically charged and this is more so in the second series.

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

I can't even begin to express my feelings of how much this is better than
Ally McBeal. I happen to be very fussy over American Legal dramas, but most nights I can't resist some "Denny Crane" time.
When it comes to Ally McBeal, I honestly don't have time for all that single insecure female lawyer nonsense. It's just not for me.
Top quality partnership and acting from Shatner and Spader. I can't possibly think of a better comedy/drama law firm duo.
Overall its great show and I really enjoy it.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Don't let the cast put you off!

I am the same as you.

I always related James Spader to Crash [an awful film in my opinion] and various baddies in iconic 80's films. He played them so well....

I obviously always related William Shatner to the camp Captain Kirk and the equally camp TJ hooker.

Boston Legal is evidence of the theory that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts because Shatner and Spader together are simply awesome.

I was suggested this series by my sister, I believe it was shown on an obscure Sky channel like Living TV? Don't let THAT put you off though!

This is a great, witty, intelligent series with an outstanding cast. It kicks bells out of Allie Mcbeal [someone should] and is quite easy watching considering some legal dramas/comedys can wander off into moral high ground and boring life lessons... this stays funny throughout.

Shatner really IS awesome.

Truly, truly awesome.

At the end of the season, it WILL get to the point where him just saying his name will have you laughing out loud.

Danny Crane.

Splendid entertainment, a break from the normal run of the mill legal soap series. James Spader & William Shatner are brilliant.
