It has become fashionable to hate this film even before it is seen, which I think is sad. Because this is one hell of a movie!

"Basic Instinct 2" won a Razzie Award for "worst prequel or sequel". HA! Now that is indeed a lie. I can come up with several examples of more awful pre- or sequels from 2006 than this one:
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning"
"Big Momma's House 2"
"Garfield 2"
"The Legend of Zorro"
"Superman Returns"
"The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift"
"Underworld: Evolution"
I could go on forever!

She is SO hot and sexy, and she can seduce any man just by looking at him - I know she could seduce me...

"Basic Instinct 2" won a Razzie Award for "worst picture". Oh boy. Don't even get me started with how many more awful films which were made in 2006 - I don't have the space.

I think it's unfair with all these Razzies. Well, "Basic Instinct 2" was certainly not a film I expected to be made, but it is here now and I must that I enjoyed it big time. I know I was seduced almost for the two hours it goes. The only thing I can say I wish replaced, IF I had to say something that is, then I would replace David Morrissey with Michael Douglas from the first film. Morrissey is good, but Douglas was better - He is always better!

In spite of all the undeserved Razzie Awards, I can only recommend "Basic Instinct 2", it is dark, hot and sexy, intense and when it is all over, you'll still be guessing.

Whilst 'Basic Instinct 2' is, to be brutally honest, a pretty terrible film it still is by no means the cinematic abomination that many critics labelled it. When it was first announced and subsequently rumoured to be in the hands of David Cronenberg it seemed we might even be looking at a fantastic, psychologically rich excercise in style. Well, something must have gone awry along the way because what we have here is about as psychologically rich as an episode of 'Neighbours' Sharon Stone stills looks stunningly gorgeous however considering she's due to turn 50 next year and, though she doesn't flash the flesh quite as much this time around she's in no bad shape either. Her portrayal of Catherine Tramell was never going to earn her a best actress Oscar but it's suitably sleazy, sexy and OTT for a film of this ilk. The trouble comes in the rest of the cast and crew with Paul Verhoeven nowhere in sight this time around and the director's chair filled instead by Michael Caton-Jones, a… more »

With a different director the enjoyably trashy atmosphere of the first film is missing here replaced by a flat, altogether lifeless imitation. Jerry Goldsmith's fantastic score is used sparingly here and there and is a more than welcome addition but though the footage shot in and around London looks suitably gorgeous (the Gherkin has never been more appropriate) the whole affair feels a little too 'seen-it-all-before' It doesn't help that Michael Douglas is missing as well to be replaced by David Morrisey (from TV series 'Blackpool'). The plotline feels like a basic retread of the original albeit relocated to the capital and the ending throws away all sense of logic in favour of a 'shock twist' that is most likely to have you screaming, laughing, bewildered or all three. But it's certainly not all bad and there are far worse films churned into cinemas every year than this. Providing you're in the right mood and don't expect art then you could certainly do a lot worse than 'Basic Instinct 2' But maybe you should put them away for now Shazza...
