Starship Troopers has only Saving Private Ryan to rival it in terms of mainstream violence. Like that film the bloodshed is absolutely intrinsic to the narrative and the underlying themes of young sacrifice in times of war.
However unlike Ryan Starship Troopers is seen by the majority as gratuitous in the way it puts it soldiers through the meat grinder-but thats the point. It may be a science-fiction film on the surface, but yet again Verhoeven critiques the American cultural and military hegemony, not only of this world but of others.
Argentina resembles the O.C. and its English speaking Latino set are inducted into war via Gridiron and a Michael Ironside straight out of All Quiet on the Western Front.
Verhoeven makes his new recruits look stunning and then proceeds to put them through training and then war. He dispatches them in all manner of bloodthirsty ways-victims not only of the bugs but of the neo-Facist system which sent them there.
The cast are terrific. They act in a wooden day-time soap style, over confident and overbearing which only adds to their comic, but horrific demises.

Forget the book, this is camp, camp, CAMP!

Cult classic. Just like Verhoeven's Showgirls, this one never attempts to take the subject matter seriously. And anyone who watches Starship Troopers, should keep that in mind.

Wooden acting and stiff line delivery is, in fact, just what the director required from his actors. The powershots of soldiers with their phallic guns and one-liners is comic-book writing at its best. Action sequences are extravagant, over the top and chaotic. The paper-thin chracters are simply cannon fodder, just like they should be. Oddly enough, for a ten year-old movie the special effects are not really half bad and suit the overall look and feel.

Not to be taken too seriously, but there is an underlying theme of governmental oppression and the worry about the big brother watching. How do you validate yourself as a human being, after all the things you have done to the society, environment and your lifestyle in general? What happens when your dreadful existence is at stake by an outside threat? In the end, it is still your misery, you've grown to like it with its faults and all -- and you defend it.

Just like you do this movie.

 Absolute must have DVD.

Amazing special effects, mindless violence, buckets of gore and blood, loads of cheese. What more could you want for late night entertainment? This is not your typical sci-fi movie, but is basically brilliant. It is so, so not suitable for the kids. Make very sure they are tucked up in bed before you view this one, or they will be having nightmares for years to come! At this price it is an absolute must have.

First of all, this is an Action/Sci-Fi that really packs a punch and delivers in droves.

The Story is well constructed, and the Dialouge is excellent. The special effects in this film are truelly awesome! No expense spared!! there also quite Gory and theres a lot of Blood! so if your squeemish, this might not appeal to you.

This film also delves deep into the political and social mindset of future mankind, and shows how different the world is percieved in their eyes to how we view such things.
The "Propaganda clips" are also incredible clever, there subtle yet cheesy! and there meant to be cheesy! some of them will even provoke a grin on anyone clever enough to appreciate them.
(I wouldnt normally mention another review, but judgers seems a little unusual, as a confessed fan of the Genre, i find it hard to believe that you couldnt appreciate the cleverness and subtle tones this film oozes inbetween the hard core Sci-Fi Action.)

Well recomended! Truely a modern classic!!

The 1 and only bad point i have, is this films dreadfull excuse for a sequal, dont watch it! it spoils the origional!
