Henry James' 1876 short story 'The Ghostly Rental' is made into this low-budget straight to DVD film by producer Roger Corman. Sadly, despite Corman's involvement, this is not a good film. The original short story is no classic but this film is horribly dull in places and feels like the filmmakers have struggled to extend the story to feature length. There is also a lack of atmosphere despite the amount of blood featured on screen and the low-budget of the film shows in some of the effects. The extras on this DVD by Anchor Bay are average as well, consisting of a trailer, film notes and text biographies of actors Michael York and Claudia Christian. None of these give any insight into the making or the genesis of the film. Overall, a poor film released on an average disc.
