Directed by JJ Abrams, the genius behind the hit spy show Alias, Mission Impossible 3 is easily the best of the bunch. Carrying the emotional resonance of the first film, while topping the action of both former films respectively, MI:3 is a pulse-pounding film from its riveting start to its explosive finish.
I think you'll know whether you'll like this film or not from its opening sequence. It's an intense piece of acting from Cruise, reassuring us that this isn't going to follow the absurdity of the MI:2. In fact, the first mission will no doubt have you sold - it's dramatic, explosive, action packed and there's a serious shocker of a moment I did not see coming.
Abrams has this genre down pat. He knows his espionage inside out and really injects new life into the franchise. There are a lot of Alias-esq moments in this film, which is, rest assured, a compliment of the highest degree - it's flashy, sexy, funny and dramatic, a perfect mix of the essentials.
The music is also very Alias. And I liked that. Alias' music really added another level of intensity to the show, and the music does the exact same thing for MI:3. It's cast of characters also help in bringing new life to franchise, it's a more playful film, which is by no means a bad thing.
Overall, this is a perfect example of action done right - yes, I think this is miles better than Quantum of Solace, and it would certainly give the Bourne series a run for its money. Maybe you didn't like the other two, but this is an entirely different animal from the other MI's. Highly recommended!
