Every Bond movie is a product of it's time. So to compare the film with today's action extravaganza'a would be wrong. To get the best out of watching the early Bond movies, it's best to watch them with rose tinted vision, as if you were watching it for the first time in the early 60's
In the film that launched the James Bond saga, Agent 007 ( Sean Connery) battles the mysterious Dr. No. Connery is perfect as Bond, He is mean and moody, as what Bond should be. We also get the iconic shot of Ursula Andress coming out of the sea. For a film of it's age still to grip a audience, is proof of the quality of the movie. This is a Proto-type Bond and not the best in the series, but the creases do get ironed out in the Next installment.
A must buy for all Bond fans, This is vintage excellence !
But I'm not too sure of the early opening title sequence though.
if only all bond films were as good as this

i have every bond film (including casino royale) and this is the best 1 of the lot , the criminals are the worst (they shoot unarmed woman in the back) so who better to take them on than an equally cold hearted killer named james bond (007) a must see film
brilliant film

The first Bond film which kicked off 007 who in 2006 was able to be brought back to basics again like this film. 007 has only the ppk to keep him safe, and yes it is a product of it's time but the forumla is still there, and at the time it was a new vision in cinema. Also this was the first film to get the sound of a silenced gun effect correct. Till then it was all unsilenced guns, so thats something else 007 brought to the cinema.
First Bond film is still a marvellous movie...

The first Bond film still works beautifully, despite being nearly fifty years old. A lean, muscular Sean Connery is at his most ruthless here, playing Bond in his debut appearance as a state-sanctioned killer, who enjoys his work.
Peter Hunt's crisp editing was hugely innovative at the time and it's one of the reasons that Dr No still seems remarkably fresh. The Caribbean locations are beautifully presented in this digitally remastered print. Dr No has never looked as good as this.
A Stunning Debut

Connery plays the part definitively, Joseph Wiseman is a superb villain, the setting is fantastic and Ursula Andress makes an unforgettable appearance. The DVD is a considerable improvement on the previous issue with accurate 1.66:1 framing, crisp detail and accurate colour
