This Moore outing is pretty average, even by his standards, But still way better than Moors final outing.
Bond faces Christopher Lee as Scaramanga, a world renowned asassin whose weapon of choice is a distinctive golden pistol. with all it's faults, there is still much to enjoy in this movie.Moore does his one liners and eyebrow acting to perfection, Britt Ekland is beautiful to look at, and we also have the amazing barrel rolling car stunt. This movie is a slight improvement on Live And Let Die. But cannot compare to Connery's early outings.
Loved it. Christopher Lee as Scaramanga was great and I loved Nick Nack. Roger Moore is great as Bond and added more to the film.
The Man With The Golden Gun (1974) - ***
Roger Moore's second appearance as 007 has a staple Bond set up, complete with baddie lair, physically distinctive henchman and tragic girl. What lets it down is it's tendency for corniness, a flaw which would return to haunt Moore's reign as the super spy again and again. Christopher Lee puts in a lazy performance as Scaramanga, and Britt Ekland is truly awful as Bond's useless fellow agent and subsequent distraction. What makes this worth a watch is it's fantastic theme tune by Lulu, a second appearance by the hilarious Sheriff J.W. Pepper, a great sequence in karate school and Scaramanga's ingenius hall of mirrors.
"The man with the golden gun" is generally considered to be the weakest of all the Bond films, which is a little unfair, to be honest. While it seems apparent from watching the film that the Bond team were fatigued and running short of inspiration, there is still a lot of good stuff here. It is one of the least distinguished of all the Bond films, but you may be surprised at how much better it is than you remembered when you sit down and see it again.
Roger Moore still looks great as Bond and gives a more assured and confident performance than in "Live and let die". Christopher Lee is excellent as Scaramanga, the world's number one assassin. He is so charismatic you almost don't want to see him get killed. Maud Adams provides classy support as his doomed, tragic girlfriend. The visuals are, once again, wonderfully exotic.
Unfortunately, the script could have done with a lot more clarity and, while the film starts brilliantly, it does run out of steam about two-thirds of the way through. The climax on Scaramanga's island lacks tension and spectacle and Christopher Lee is never allowed to be as menacing as he should be.
Nonetheless, this is an underrated Bond film.
I find it hard to believe that this is rated Average by loads of people . You got to be kidding , this is the best Bond Film out the lot , You have Odd Job , The flying Car , What more could you wont , Oh i forgot Roger Moore , The 2nd best James Bond Behind Sean Connery . This Film is Great and you will love it , Well i did anyway . 8 / 10
