With believable gadgets and action scenes this marked a return to the classic James Bond thriller after the cartoon silliness that was Moonraker

Thank god they got Bond back on track, after the over blown Moonraker! The film is back to Basics and the most gritty of all Moores outings.
when a Brittish spy ship is sunk in foreign water, the world superpowers begin a feverish race to find the cargo : a nuclear submarine control system. Moore is thrust into his most riviting adventures as he rushes to join the search. Along with The Spy who Loved Me this is Moors best outing as Bond. Moore in this one is more nasty, watch the scene as he pushes a hit-man over the edge of a cliff. Moore has never been better and the gritty tone is most welcome. The film still has a few faults, as in the death of Blofeld, and the Margerat Thatcher gag at the end of the movie, this still show that the movies if not under contol could slip back into the self mocking parody of the previouse outing. A cracking Bond Movie !

 Roger Moore's finest OO7 adventure

This is one the best James Bond thrillers, and the beginning of the John Glen films which just work. They have a "feel good" element that is lacking today although I try to ignore the border slapstick moments!

There are some fantastic sequences and locations in this movie and the story is very good with fine performances from Roger Moore, Julian Glover and Topol. Bond is brought back to earth (literally following on from Moonraker!) and the plot is very believable. The ski chase is just excellent (look out for Charles Dance in one of his earliest roles as one of the henchmen!), the Citreon 2CV chase is a classic Bond moment and the finale is nail biting.

The Ultimate Edition DVD's really do OO7 justice. With superb picture quality and a DTS soundtrack they should be part of any serious movie collection.

This is one of my favourite films and I always enjoy watching it.

 Good, not great

The first half of this film is great with the fantastic 2CV car chase and skiing scene with some decent music. However the pace slows to almost a crawl in the second half of the film which is a great shame and get's too serious. Fantastic first half though and this film probably has the best pre-credits sequence of all the Bond movies.

Bond redeems himself after that silly business in space...

"For your eyes only" was a welcome attempt at a more serious thriller after the extravagance of "Moonraker". This was a wise decision on the part of the film-makers.

Certainly, "For your eyes only" is an improvement on "Moonraker". While it was laudable to make a more believable kind of Bond film, it is a something of a pity that the film itself never catches fire as one would like it to. The performances are all good, but there is little in the film itself that really stands out as being truly memorable. The story about the serach for the missing ATAC system is functional but nothing special.

Topol is great in his role as Bond's ally, however, and Moore himself shows a tougher side to his character than we normally see.
