The opening scene is in a busy Hong Kong restaurant with a group of detectives talking, within a handful of lines we're taking straight into the action. A fast paced raid scene followed by a car chase which is the main starting point of the story.
It doesn't take long to get you into the story getting you up to date with what you need to know, people, occupations and a little bit of background. As the movie moves along you learn more about the characters, slowly discovering more about them and what has lead them to become involved with this case.
The directing is pretty standard for an action movie, nothing out of the ordinary but overall it was done well. The writing is rather basic throughout but has some real moments of genius.... I can't go into more details without giving some of the story away, but you'll know what I mean by the end!
For me the strongest part of this movie is the acting, Nicholas Tse's and Nicky Cheung's performances are both immense, they steal the show right from the outset and deserved the awards they won for Best Actor.
Beat Stalker's downfall is pacing, at times the movie tends to go a little dry, it builds up a lot of suspense and gets you into the thriller mood but then leaves you hanging.
Overall: Beast Stalker is a decent action movie, the fight scenes are good and the handful of car chases aren't bad either. Good performances by the hero and the villain help take this movie to the next level.
There are better action movies/thrillers on the market but still this is worth a watch.
I'd never heard of this movie at all until I saw it listed on play. I've seen Nicholas Tse in a few movies and have been impressed by his performance. I think that as an actor this is perhaps his best performance. The movie is a good watch, is very well filmed and well directed. I'd like to see more from both Tse and Lam in the future.
