It's been three months since Marian's untimely death and Robin is a changed man. Tougher, he's sacked his gang since they all returned from the Holy Land. Not only that - he's hell bent on avenging his wife's tragic end. Her slayer, Guy of Gisborne is a marked man. Fuelled by anger and grief, Robin seems stuck in a downward spiral, but a new beacon of hope arrives in the form of a travelling monk called Tuck (David Harewood), who soon gets our hooded hero back on track. Meanwhile, the wickedness of the Sheriff continues unabated. A spirited Locksley girl named Kate (Joanne Froggatt) objects to her brother's forced conscription. As a result she inadvertently gets caught up in the cause of Robin Hood and becomes an indispensable member of the gang. As the threat of Prince John (Toby Stephens) looms larger, Robin and Gisborne have to reach an uneasy truce as it emerges that they may have rather more in common than they thought.

In my opinion out of the vast majority of the Robin Hoods out there this is by far the best. It is witty enjoyable and fast paced. It is certainly suitable for all ages. And when aired on TV this reflected in the 7pm airing time.
The casting is just right Robin is supposed to be young he has just returned from the crusades Jonas Armstrong is perfectly suited. Marian (Lucy Griffiths) is the model woman she stands up for what she thinks is right and isn't afraid to put herself in the line of fire so to speak.
The sheriff is suitably horrid and Robin is perfect as the young charming and cheeky rebel. As most BBC shows are good you expect this to be too and you arent disappointed.
Tuck was brilliant and a great diversion from the usual fat drunkard he is usually represented as. But the one downfall is that he was so much like Djaq in the cleverness and chemistry department that is felt like the only reason they'd made him intelligent beyond his time was to fill the gap she left.
My favourite character being Will. I just think he was cast extremely well and he is such a great actor. But that is my personal opinion. There is so many other characters to review.
But you really need to watch this yourself. To experience the brilliance of the whole thing!!
The BBC have tried to give the classic tale of Robin Hood a modern touch with this new dramatisation. All 3 series of this were enjoyable as each other. After each episode it left me wanting more and more. In which I gave in by watching another episode. The Cliff hangers are certainly in the right place and im pretty sure you will feel the same way as I.
The storyline it self as somewhat wondered from the path as the normal story of the legend of Robin Hood but still keeps in character with elements of the normal Robin hood. And certainly the elements that we all know and love. And even though if you find you are disappointed. And somewhat annoyed that it hasnt followed the traditional story. Dont be annoyed!! This storyline is superb. Well thought out and thoroughly enjoyable. It gives a complete new perspective.. A perspective that is just excellent gripping and honourable of the Robin Hood name.
I recommend this profoundly!! 5/5!!!

 why axe it ????

Wasnt sure to begin with if it could live up to the previous 2 series but ended up being better than both of them,a brilliant ending and very sad! Should have made a spin off with archer as robin hood a real pity!

 Fantastic

This is a great series and somehow they manage to keep changing it to keep it fresh. They have moved away from the predicatable 'capture and escape, capture and escape' routine slightly this series and introduced more variety. The introduction of both new and traditional characters have made this a great series.

After a year's break from TV screens, the up-to-date take on the traditional tale of Robin Hood returned with a new bunch of writers and a new third series, a series which I feel is the best to date as like the reviewer below me has stated it the writers add a bunch of characters into the mix (Brother Tuck, Kate, Isabella etc) some of which are from the well known tale while others are simply modern day additions. As well as this, as mentioned, the series moves away from the capture and escape mode that was present in most episodes of the first two series.

The main change to this series of course is that of the cast. With the shocking (as in unexpected) end to the second series, viewers and fans were left with little hope for how this new series would play out after losing some of the main characters. The fact is that the new writers do it very well indeed. Launching back into the action straight away, we get one episode devoted to Robin trying to extract revenge for the loss of his love which frees up many more for many different types of adventure. The additions to the cast are brilliant too with Tuck (David Harwood) providing a voice of reason for the gang, Archer (Clive Standen) - the brother and a close match with a bow for Robin, while Lara Palver (Isabella) is amazing as a Cruella de Vil type take on the Sheriff. Despite these great new additions; certain members of the old cast are here too, Jonas Armstrong is back for one last turn as Robin, Sam Troughton as Much - Robin's close friend, Joe Armstrong as Allan, Gordon Kennedy as Little John, the fantastic Richard Armitage returns as a transformed Guy of Gisborne and of course the man who steals the entire show, Keith Allan, who plays the original sheriff, a man everyone hates but loves at the same time.

Series three also has some brilliant episode highlights these being; Let The Games Commence, Do You Love Me, Bad Blood, The Enemy Of My Enemy and the brilliant finale - Something Worth Fighting For (part two being very well done in very aspect). In all; the series totally reinvents itself in terms of storytelling and the take on the traditional tale to move the story forward after the uncertain ending to series two which saw several members of the cast and the head writer depart. Although; this is the final series to date, and we know that certain other cast members are leaving, Jonas Armstrong who plays Robin being one of them, the third series certainly sets things up so they may continue. Heres hoping that like the legend, it does...
