'Not One Less is an original, extremely affecting story of a small Chinese village and the children that inhabit it. When an elementary school teacher leaves his assignment to care for his ill mother, the community leader employs a 13-year-old girl, Wei Minzhi, to take his place. After the class clown is forced to leave the village in order to find work, Wei Minzhi organizes a fundraiser that will give her enough money to track him down and return him to his rightful place in the classroom. Zhang's film proves that determination and will can conquer any odds...

Excellent film that keeps one captivated throughout the film; This is no blockbuster, but it tells a good story of a young girls commitment to her duty as a substitute teacher in a remote village school;A very harmonious film & certainly worth watching,if you don't mind following with subtitles.
An enjoyable film!

Just like another of Yimou's films, 'Happy Times', this film is very enjoyable. I use to be a primary school teacher so it was fun for me to see how far the girl in the school would go for her pupils. She certainly was dedicated. Not one less is a great little film with at heart warming story. Like most chinese films, the characters show little emotion towards each other but sometimes actions speak louder than words. I bought this film when it was in the sales. I wouldn't be inclinded to spend a lot on this film. My advice would be to pick it up in the sales.
