Wealthy reformed party girl Melanie Daniels enjoys a brief flirtation with lawyer Mitch Brenner in a San Francisco pet shop and decides to follow him to his Bodega Bay home. Bearing a gift of two lovebirds, Melanie quickly strikes up a romance with Mitch while contending with his possessive mother and boarding at his ex-girlfriend's house. One day, during a birthday party for Mitch's younger sister, a flock of birds attacks the children in what seems to be a random incident. In fact, it signals the beginning of a massive and organized avian assault on the residents of the town--a mysterious assault that no one can explain... and from which no one might come out alive.

 Another Hitchcock classic

Terrifically suspenseful tale of nature turning on man for reasons unknown.

Tippi Hedren's Melanie Daniels impulsively follows handsome lawyer Mitch Brennan (Rod Taylor) to the small California town of Bodega Bay. Almost as soon as she arrives she is attacked by a solitary bird, but soon, the attacks by the animals become fiercer and more intense, and as nature itself appears to turn on the small town, there soon appears little chance of escape from the birds.

Massively enthralling from the start, and with a very decent set of extras (including a thoroughly comprehensive making of documentary that's absorbing) Hitchcock's version of the Daphne du Maurier tale keeps it's power because it never explains why the birds turn on man - we only know that they do, and are vicious in their attacks.

The fear of the unexplained is always more intense and I would have loved to have seen the unshot ending (found on the DVD) where the characters that survived make it to San Francisco, to find the Golden Gate Bridge covered with birds, implying that even cities had succumbed to nature.

Outstandingly good horror!!

Before Jaws there was the Birds?

They might not eat you but they still attack you and will not give in.

Just like Jaws, The Birds is set in a little fishing coastal village.

Its a thriller with shocking effects.

Rod Taylor of the Time Machine and Tippi Hedren of Marnie star and are both briillant in their roles.

Watch out also for a very young Veronica Cartwright from Alien.

This film is Alfred Hitchcock at his best and I would say is better than Psycho.

Also with this dvd comes some great extras especially the brillant trailer. They don't make them like that any more.

 One of Hitchcocks' best

The Birds is a terriffic thriller based on a short story by Daphne Du Maurier.Tippi Hedren stars as rich girl, Melanie Daniels. She arrives in a small San Fransisco town to surprise an attractive lawyer (Rod Taylor). However they and the town get more than a surprise when birds start attacking everyone and everything.
The film has a real scary quality and is directed excellently by Alfred Hitchcock.

 Hitchcock thrue masterpiece.

This film is a must-see for every fan of a good movie. The Hitchcock touch is visible thruout the entire movie, and the film is without boring parts. And it has stood the test of time, the movie still look fresh.
The only drawback is that sone 2 version of the film is in fullscreen. Let's hope a digitally remastered widescreen version soon will appear in the shops.

 Scary As Hell

Another masterpiece from the master of suspense, Hitchcock had the amazing ability to draw the maximum chills and thrills from almost nothing.

The special effects may not be to todays standard and the acting was of the time but it scared the hell out of me when I saw it the first time many many years ago and it still sends a tingle down the spine today.
