Definitely. Max Manus is a remarkable piece of art. Balanced and thrilling about Norwegian resistance heroes.
If you have seen a lot of WWII movies don't think this will be just another one.
A solid mark is given for true storytelling of brave young spirits, making Norway what the country is today.
In light of this is a Norwegian production it is very well made, the story of Max is of course much longer than they had time to tell in the movie. But it is probably the best screenplay and production concerning quality in Norwegian measure. It has a thril and nerve that pulls you in.. It illustrates the courage of a brave man who just come back from the winter war in Finland before that walking across the Andees mountains and staying in Cuba (his prehistory is not included in the movie except for glimpses of the winter war in Finland). A interesting true character that breaths life to this story and the events of wwII under the occupation of Norway. You can read more about Max Manus in his books or at wikipedia.org when you have this it is probably much easier to understand the man Max Manus was.
The Norwegians making this had the chance to make a great WW2 film, like the Danish did a few months before with Flammen & Citronen, but this films fails terribly. Falls through after 15 minutes; and just a big jawn after that! Buy Flammen & Citronen instead, and you will have a good time ahead!
A great movie, gives a realistic picture of how this "Oslo gang" operated during WW2. These young guys did not accept the situation after the German occupation of Norway. Tikken Manus, Max's wife sat beside the King on opening night, she said after the screening "This is exactly how it was back in those days"
