If you've never seen this, stop everything right now and buy it! It's great, whatever your age. A wonderfully dark, imaginative, original series making exceptional use of puppets and innovative filming techniques. Who can forget the terrifying title sequence featuring the voice of the Mysterons, illustrated by those two weird circles of light accompanied by that slow, haunting four-note musical sequence? As Ed Bishop's voice introduces us to the episode, we're taken slowly around a damp, dimly-lit street at night. Captain Scarlet appears and is shot repeatedly but does not die. He raises his gun, and one shot is enough to silence his attacker. Then we see Captain Black, standing ominously in a graveyard. The camera pans up to his evil, dead Mysteron face... Superb stuff. And what about the original style of the show? The staccato drum beat over the swift backwards/forwards editing taking us from one scene to another? Those superb vehicles that appeal to the child in us (particularly to the boys!). Unlike Thunderbirds which for me was too "goody goody", Captain Scarlet dared to have the Mysteron/Earth war begun entirely due to a misunderstanding by an Earthman and continued relentlessly by an over-sensitive, unforgiving Mysteron race, and don't forget that the lead character is essentially a revived dead man! Captain Scarlet was well ahead of its time.

STILL GREAT SINCE IT WAS MADE IN 1966. In conclusion, an essential purchase if you're already a fan, highly recommended if you're new to this series or are unsure as to it's appeal.
