Well well well. This movie really seems to have split the Play.com opinion right down the middle.
Personally I was expecting to watch a film that was full of Imagination and that would ultimately make me feel like a kid.
That would make me feel the same Excitement and Sense of Wonderment when I watched films like Back to the Future and The Goonies and Stand By Me and Flight of the Navigator and the rest of the 80s Classics. I appreciate that this is not that TYPE of film, but that was my hope from it.
But for me it just didnt happen, the story didnt move me, or get my imagination running wild.
But maybe thats just me, maybe that feeling doesnt come back after a certain age.
But im not going to be too critical here as the film is working the same magic on other people. It is well acted and directed.
And the Animatronics of the Wild Things are first rate along with the Locations that were used.
One that you have to watch to make up your own mind.
I will probably watch it again with my Little Boy in a few years, when he is about 6 or 7.

 Completely Beautiful!

Give kids some credit...this will boost their imagination, show them some magic and take you with them.

Absolutely stunning filmmaking coupled with fantastic acting and a magical soundtrack. You won't regret buying this!

Totally disappointed with this film. Nothing like what I was expecting from the book I read my son and my granson has read to him. Def not suitable for little ones, ::((((

If you are suffering from depression this is not a film for you. I did wounder how they were going to turn such a short picture story into a film and was quite disappointed. The book is quite clearly a story of a childs dream / imagination and had the opportunity to be developed into an upbeat and positive story; this adaptaion however has added in a whole new sub-plot of the child coming from a disfunctional family and then uses the monsters to play out all of his insecurities and fears. It is a technically well made film so if you want to watch it as an academic / critic you may enjoy it.

Ignore the fact its based on a kids book

A truly beautiful film; its simplicity only makes it more authentic. Just don't bother showing it to your kids.

 Beautiful film but . . .

This film is brilliant at tapping into the emotions that you go through as a kid . . .I lied and got away with it, my lie has been found out etc etc.
The Wild Things ae brilliantly done. So little CGI involved and it shows as they are actually real. They each appear to represent a differrent side of the boy and this works.
It's also beautifully shot with many images and scenes staying with you long after you watch the film.
But who is it made for. I've recommended it to my friends who ae ealy to mid 30s and they have all enjoyed it. But not sure I would recommend it for kids. I'm not sure it would hold their interest.

Woeful doesn't even come close to summing up this film!!!

Were the wild things are' is a film not does very little to entice its audience. The script for the majority of time is fixed on a boy who runs away from home and sails to an island where he convinces some monsters that he's is a king, rather than them eating him, yawn. The dialogue bumbles along with him talking to them and v.little happening, infact it reminded me of high Budget version of the tweenies'. After about an hour you quickly come to conclusion that this not only a waste of money, but also a waste of your time.

The worst film I have seen in ages

This film might be pretty and the monsters quite well done but the film itself is tedious. The script of the monsters seem to mainly consit of ""whats happening","Nothing","are you alright","yeah you alright", "yeah". This seems to go on for most of the film. Why create these monsters and turn them into stroppy emos.
I watched the whole film waiting for the big point of it all and it never came.
Loved the book hated the film.

 Not what I was expecting...

First things first; I loved this movie. However, despite it being a PG, I, personally, would not feel at all comfortable letting any child under the age of 12 watch it. I was expecting a beautiful childrens film...and whilst it is extremely beautiful to watch, it really is quite dark and frightening...and very, very twisted.

Don't get me wrong - I really think that this is a great film. There were some parts where I was completely lost and had no idea what was going on. There were some parts that were quite distrubing and other parts that definately made me feel childlike myself. But despite all these ups and downs, twists and turns, I was incredibly moved when the credits rolled.

Highly recommended...for big kids and grown ups! :o)
