Parents looking for a missing child are led into a strange and dangerous netherworld in this thriller.

Jeanne (Emmanuelle Beart) and Paul (Rufus Sewell) are a wealthy couple who were in Thailand helping to establish an orphanage when the 2005 tsunami leveled the island. Jeanne and Paul had a young son who disappeared in the storm, and since his body has never been found, Jeanne holds out hope that he might still be alive, a hope that becomes a desperate concern when she sees a video of children being held by kidnappers in Burma which shows a child who looks like her boy.

Eager to find out the truth, Paul pays a hefty fee to local outlaw Mr. Gao (Petch Osathanugrah) to escort him and Jeanne into a forbidden zone known only to Thailand's criminal underclass near the Burmese border. Jeanne and Paul soon find themselves out of their depth in a strange land they do not understand where dangerous men commune with the spirits of the dead.

 Beautiful and inspiring

While I understand where these other reviewers are coming from, I honestly think this is one of the most beautiful and haunting films you'll see this year. Those who were unimpressed with Antichrist's pretentiousness and extremities will find much to enjoy in Fabrice Du Welz's story of a couple who are driven to madness through the loss of their son. The sound design alone demonstrates Du Welz's ability to captivate an audience and draw him into his world of isolated hell.

A must of horror and arthouse fans alike.

 Atmospheric- quite haunting

Not sure what the bad reviews are about. I quite liked the slow but taut screenplay. The cinematography was very good, and great visuals.

 Lacking depth

Top 100 Gadgets Reviewer

Plot wise not a lot happens that hasn't already been stated in the synopsis. The film starts good but never really seemed to go anywhere. Perhaps the lack of plot was on purpose so that it's up to the viewer on how to interpret the film, however I don't feel this worked, and if anything it just left me disappointed.

It's not all bad though, the cinematography is amazing and is truly haunting in places, at times I even felt I was watching some of the jungle scenes from Apocalpyse Now. However, it's just a shame there wasn't much of a story to back it up.

 Dire!

I couldn't find one redeeming feature in this film. Acting is atrocious, story is pretty much non-existent and its an absolute bore. Avoid like the plague.

From start to finish this film was rubbish with no story and the worst acting i have ever seen, especially the scene were Rufus Sewell is drunk!!!! I was shocked as Rufus Sewell's films are usually good but this was rubbish i wouldn't have gave it 1 star but there was no option to give no stars. Its just loads of nudity and no story line, it wasn't for me
