'Three Colours: Blue' looks at the theme of liberty, examed beautifully through the gradual absorption of soaring music into the life of car crash survivor Julie. Juliet Binoche is the perfect embodiment of sadness and loneliness, contrasting strongly with her haunting beauty. The cinematography creates a scintillating world of deep blues and shrouded, layered surfaces, while the performances are wonderfully understated and nuanced.
