Review

Krzysztof Kieslowski's Three Colours trilogy, which explores the French Revolutionary ideals of Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood, are landmarks of world cinema. 'Three Colours Blue' was an immediate success, winning the top prizes at the 1993 Venice film festival and unanimous praise from critics and audiences the world over.

Julie (Juliette Binoche) loses her composer husband and their child in a car crash and, though devastated, she tries to make a new start, away from her country house and a would-be lover. But music still surrounds her and she uncovers some unpleasant facts about her husband's life. Slowly Julie learns to live again, as music and the gift of creativity prove to be a healing force.

Im sorry but dullsville is an utter twazzock! This film is an absolute classic and would indeed be appreciated by anyone with half a brain and an eye for great film making. The subtleties of comedy are brilliant. This is one of the best dark comedies of the 21st century! Ignore dullsville and DO IT!!!

Krzysztof Kieslowski's brilliant trilogy examining life is similar to Satyajit Ray's 'Apu' series, but much quieter, on a smaller, seemingly incidental scale. 'Three Colours: Blue' looks at the theme of liberty, examed beautifully through the gradual absorption of soaring music into the life of car crash survivor Julie. Juliet Binoche is the perfect embodiment of sadness and loneliness, contrasting strongly with her haunting beauty. The cinematography creates a scintillating world of deep blues and shrouded, layered surfaces, while the performances are wonderfully understated and nuanced. A pure, crystalline insight into a fractured, but surviving life
