Sam's ability to leap back and forth between time has been both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, he can use his abilities to help the police solve the most heinous crimes, but on the other, he can't ever intervene in what he witnesses. He knows doing so could alter the present in horrific ways.

But when a woman, Elizabeth, from his childhood comes begging for help in finding her sister's murderer, Sam's own demons make him break this golden rule.

... It's a rule for a reason.

i will admit the first film was brilliant, no more needs to be said there. how ever the second film changed the story line very slightly but was basicaly the same film.
the this one i was expecting to do the same thing but it didn't, they had a whole new story line which was good.

 CAUSE & EFFECT

The first Butterfly Effect was a cinematic masterpiece theres no doubt about it, the second film of the series appeared to change the storyline slightly but it was essentially the first film all over again but with a duller script and characters that you didnt care for as much. This third film however takes the premise of the first two films and spins it on its head completely and thus makes the trilogy end on a high note even if this film is not up to the standard of the first Butterfly Effect.

This time around the plot is more gruesome than the previous two with our time traveller (this time played by Chris Carmack) using his gift to aid the police solve the most deadly of crimes until a murder case rears its head that is too close to home and he tries to change things for the better. In terms of image the film tends to feel slightly less high budget than the previous two but the decent acting by all those involved and the strong script help prevent you from noticing this. As well as this both Chris Carmack and Rachel Miner are very good and convincing enough as the two lead characters especially during the final scene in the warehouse and for the first time since the original movie they actually create some characters that you feel something for. In terms of the script, the reveal of the killer is somewhat predicable as the movie progresses but due to some good scripting and acting is handled very well and the build-up to this point is interesting to see as the effects of the time travel cause simular ripples to those that were caused in the first two films. In addition to this the conclusion and very final scene is very strong and somewhat haunting making it the best ending since the first film.

In all; this was a lot better than I was expecting it to be following the somewhat below-par previous sequel. It has a decent cast all of whom put in decent performances, we finally get back to characters that we feel something for and the script is a brilliant twist on the first two movies taking the series down an interesting route that ends on a shocking but brilliant cliff-hanger. Not quite as good as the original film but a lot better than the previous sequel, the Butterfly Effect 3 is well worth the chance.

i loved the first film even though i'm not a kutcher fan (he needs to do more roles like this), didnt enjoy the sequel but this one is suprisingly good.
