Messengers 2: The Scarecrow

This was a straight to DVD prequel which is not bad, if your looking for blood and gore you wont find it here, this is a straight forward creepy story about a cursed cornfield basically, the main guy is a bit down on his luck and puts up a scarecrow in his field which through some kind of black magic starts to bring him good fortune, at the cost of his sanity and sacrifice of his family. It's fairly enjoyable if you like a few cheap scares, it's slightly slow getting started but the final 30-40mins are pretty good. There is however a few good nude scenes with a hot chick! The original is better but this is a good film anyway if you can really get into it.

Having enjoyed the first Messengers immensely, I was looking fwd to this prequel and it isn't half-bad. A down on his luck farmer erects a scarecrow in his field and finds his luck turning for the better until events take a more sinister turn and he begins to wonder if his success is all coming at a cost to his family and his sanity. The film delivers through some generally effective setpieces and a liberal amount of gore. Its no better than the first film but at £10 its a decent enough purchase. The main character does get a bit irritating after a while - he is a bit thick - but Messengers 2 is overall a satisfying film.

there are quite a few horror film involving corn fields or scarecrows but I wouldn't really put this into a horror category. You don't see anything and I can't see how its connected to the orignal film in any way. Basically the scarecrow gives you good harvest at a price, namely death, cue dozy farmer that doesn't realise whats going off. This film was made purely on the success of the first and as usual, its not as good, wait til its about £3 then try it!
