Directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi (who also created the best-selling series of video games that inspired the film), the groundbreaking 'Final Fantasy', which stars a startlingly lifelike cast of animated characters, is the first photo-realistic computer-generated feature film ever made.

In the year 2065, Earth has been taken over by a race of alien phantoms and transformed into a barren wasteland sprinkled with dome-enclosed barrier cities, the last remaining bastions of human civilization. Dr. Aki Ross (voiced by actress Ming-Na) has teamed up with Captain Gray Edwards (Alec Baldwin) to search for the "eighth spirit," a powerful entity dwelling in an unknown life form somewhere on the planet. It holds the key to perfecting a system of energy waves that will neutralize the phantoms. Ross's opponent is the reckless General Hein (James Woods), who is determined to put a stop to the alien invasion by firing a satellite cannon directly into a nest of phantoms located deep within the Earth, even though this could mean obliterating the planet and all life upon it.

The year is 2065 and after the alien invasion the surviving humans are in barrier cities looking for a way to end the onslaught. A very good storyline with fantastic looking CGI should be enough to make you buy this because it really is a nice suprise to see such a ground breaking animation. I actually forgot I was watching animation because it really is that good. I wouldn't even call this a cartoon; well worth a look.

 Great attention to Detail.

First of all, the CGI in this film is Fantastic!
Well ahead of its time. in fact, easily a competetor for todays films. the Charachters really seemed real.
The Story is quite good too, and the Voice acting is superb and really helps you to watch this like a real film.
Some of the parts of this story are very Cliche Bad Guy, but the story is adult orientated enough to show he ist actually bad, he just has different views on how things should be done.
This story really made the future feel Dark and Depresing.
An emotion i like to feel when watching a post apocalyptic horror.
Reccomended...

This is what happens when you depend 90% on cgi. This film is rubbish compared to other Final Fantasy titles such as FFVIII. I ws totally surprised when watching it expecting some sort of great plot, this film is flat.

 disapointed
