US army private Joe Armstrong is escorting a supply convoy, when it is ambushed by rebels. Instinctively, he defends himself using the martial art of Ninjitsu - an ability that puts him under suspicion by his commander and fellow soldiers.

In a plot riddled with dark intrigue, Armstrong now finds himself a lone warrior fighting corruption within his ranks. In the depths of the Philippino jungle he discovers a dark secret in his past. He has been initiated into the deadliest art of the Orient, and he must now face his destiny and fight the evil Black Star Ninja in the ultimate martial arts battle.

This is a seminal Ninja movie, with breath taking action as swift and sure as the blade of a samurai sword!

 enjoyable martial arts film

american ninja is the best out of the 5 sequels.although it is 25 yrs old now it is still a very watchable martial arts film.michael dudikoff who plays joe is very good considering he had no martial arts skills and was trained by world martial artist and black belt mike stone who sister is the famous sharon stone.the film itself goes a long at a cracking pace and the fight and ninja choreography was well done.and give credit to michael dudikoff who does a very good job with his fight scenes considering he had no martial arts experience and he also went on to do parts 2 and 4.overall very enjoyable and crisp direction by sam firstenberg who definately knows how to do ninja films with his acute camera angles which show of the ninjas acrobatics.
