I am not a big fan of chick flicks but this outstanding comedy is so much more than your average girly film.
This superb romantic comedy has it all a fantastic script, An all star cast that all deliver outstanding performances in this film and lots of laugh out loud moments.
Julia Roberts plays Julianne a happy successful single career woman who enjoys her own company and never has a relationship that lasts longer than 2 weeks, Her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) who she dated at college as had her on a pedestal ever since then drops the bombshell on her that he is engaged to be married that week.
It is only with this shock news that Julianne suddenly releases that she loves Michael and as always done so. So now Julianne has 4 days to destroy the bride to be Kimmy (Cameron Diaz) and win her man back can she do it?
Packed with lots of great laughs as Julianne begins to play every dirty trick she knows to win Michael back from Kimmy this film will make you chuckle and smile with its wit and charm.
The stand out performance for me comes from the amazing Rupert Everett who plays George Juliannes Gay editor who delivers some great scene stealing performances.
This was a superb romantic comedy that is aimed more at grown ups than a younger audience the script is great and the performances are what make this film a real hit.
Well worth having in your collection for this great price and is a certain rewatch film all the time for you.
This is not your ordinary chick flick. It actually has plot, depth, impressively clever direction, a non-standard ending (avoiding the usual cliches) and a decent "author's message" to boot, which elevates it by miles above the fluffy norm.
If you don't know the story, the film centers on the character Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts), a 27 year-old New York restaurant critic who finds out that her long-time male best friend Michael O'Neal (Mulroney) is getting married. Long ago they made a pact that if they were both still single by age 28, then they would marry each other.
When Michael suddenly rings Julianne to invite her to his wedding to Kimberly Wallace (Cameron Diaz) she realises that she wants to marry him instead. Thus she sets out to do everything she can to get them to break up. What makes it tricky is that Kimberley is so trusting and sweet... And does Michael still have the same feelings for Julianne?
What could have been a straightforward comedy of errors is instead turned into a clever, witty and thoughtful exploration of the nature of friendship, love and being in love. It also has some surreally funny magical moments in it, and to appreciate the ingenious way the film was shot and directed, you really have to watch it several times. Which I have.
And yes, I'm a man. That ought to tell you how good it is.
This is a film that I've constantly been in love with since I was younger. Great performance from Julia Roberts who really captures her character Julianne to perfection as a happy singleton with her best friend Michael until he tells her he is about to get married. Suddenly she realizes she is in love with him and will do anything to get him back, despite this meaning she will ruin his wedding to Kimmy, of which she is maid of honour. This heartwrenching story combined with many comical moments (particularly thanks to George, her gay boss) makes a wonder of a film that I enjoy to this day.
Unfortunately I now know the entire song in the film. :(
Buy :)
What a great movie! This is different to other conventional rom coms and doesn't necessarily have the ending you would expect. Julia Roberts does a fantastic job, bringing humour to the film along with her gay best friend, as well as Cameron Diaz's delightful performance - a must see movie for any rom com fan!
