very overwhelming from the start until the end. and in between a great traditional love story told in an untraditional way: very flashy, very kitschy, very up tempo but with the original textphrases... witch produces an ingeneous result.
once you get used to the original phrasing, and together with the very strong soundrack (wich stands perfectly well on its one on cd!) this movie carries on like a rollercoaster.
be my guest: watch it and you'll love it.

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.

What a fantastic movie! beautifully shot superb use of soundtrack i don't think a more perfect song could have been picked for the "first meeting" scene between Romeo and Juliet

Great casting to get to actors (Leo Di Caprio and Claire Danes) who both looked extremely young fresh faced and near perfect for the roles.

Classic remake for the most famous and tragic love story possibly ever written

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Right i am not a huge fan of shakespear... i know i know! He did do wonders for this great language called English! Fantastic! However... his stories are just quite boring... Hmmm... The one about the king being stabbed was alright... BUT ANYWAY!! I hated studying Romeo and Juliet... But then this came along.... AFTER MY GOD DAMN EXAMS!!!! I watched 10 mins before going out with my mates... and i was hooked! Its brilliant! Very good modern slant on a very old tale!

This comes from the director Baz Luhrmanm whose has directed other great movies such as moulin rouge (another must buy) and he has done a superb job to bring the story of two star-crossed lovers rocketing straight into a 20th century setting.

From the Garage fight scene to the ending credits this film will have you entertained. The scripting is purely beautiful and if you love the original play you will not be dissapointed with how it has been adapted into a motion picture hit.

No one in this film doesn't deserve to be in the role they are playing. Everyone seems to be giving 100% to there character and my honourable mentions go to the 'Benvolio' 'Tybalt' and 'Mercutio'. With Leonardo Dicapro also doing a excellent job bringing Romeo to life.

I have watched this film everytime it has been shown on the TV and have finally just bought it. you should certainly do the same. This is not a film you will watch once and not think about again.

I studied this for GCSE and we had to watch the Baz Luhrmann version and the other one! The other one was so boring I did not enjoy it but this version of the story is far better and far more interesting to watch. I must have watched this like 30 times since I first watched it in 1998. Everyone should have a copy of this in their dvd collection.

I've just got one thing to say in this review... If you enjoyed the book whilst studying back in your young days at school, buy this DVD! It is brilliant! The music, the cast and the brawls that go on between both families just reminds me off when I first read this book 10 years ago during my English class at school! Now seeing it all take place on screen just makes me jump!
