The Man Who Fell To Earth is Nic Roeg's science-fiction cult classic starring David Bowie.
Crash landing on Earth from his dying planet, an alien humanoid traveling by the name of Thomas Jerome Newton uses his superior intelligence to build a vast business empire. As he takes on, and beats, every US corporation people can only guess his true purpose - to save his dying world from agonizing death by drought.
Newton's ageless fall from grace, as he becomes prey to lust, alcohol, business rivals, and the US Government makes The Man Who Fell To Earth not only a bitingly caustic indictment of the modern world but also a poignant commentary on the loneliness of the outsider.

Not quite as deep as it thinks it is, but Bowie is beautiful

One of the main reasons to watch this film is to see just how amazingly aesthetic David Bowie used to be, and this film, filmed midway through his decadent and powder nosed 'snow white tan' 70s phase when he made all his best music, captures him both at the finest and worst moments of his youth, and nobody could have played a better alien!
Also, a pretty good film just by itself, although, no, I don't quite get the 'deep' ending either, but that's a very 60/70s movie trait right there, when the film makers realised their core audience would probably be on more drugs than the cast, I mean, have you seen 2001!?
