V For Vendetta (HD DVD)

On buying this HD DVD, it was the first time I heard Dolby Digital Plus - Through my sound system, the movies excellent sound track, base and action effects are delivered amazingly through my Speakers. You get right into the action. It enveloped me more than any other DVD sound track has done before. I was blown away.

The picture transfer is excellent, although a little bland, and great test of your screens ability to define blacks.

As a movie it is excellent - Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith from The Matrix Triology) plays V - You never see Hugo - he is under the suit and plays a complicated hero fighting against totalitarian Britain.

Natalie Portman is excellent and her acting is fantastic after you get used to her very British accent.

The movies action sequences are spectacular and the defing images of Big Ben and the under lying 'Remember remember the 5th of November plot brilliant.'

A great movie and Great HD tester for both picture and Audio.

Picture quality from the hd dvd is excellent.the sound is great,a must have film to add to your collection.5 out of 5.

This was one of my favourite films of 2007 and I was eagerly anticipating the HD release. I was not disappointed. This transfer may even become the reference disc for my HD set up, superceding Batman Begins, it's that good.
A dark film anyway, the blacks are deep, deep and very solid, but you never lose any of the action. Other colours are vivid, vivacious and voluptuous (OK enough of that), I especially liked the detail on V,s mask and very black hair that SD DVD does not pick up on. However what truly makes this transfer standout is the True HD audio.
"V" already made excellent use of it's standard Dolby audio of the SD version, but this HD version is sumptuous and the scenes where V demolishes the Old Bailey and the Houses of Parliament were truly ones to upset the neighbours and shake the living room.
It's true that this film does suffer from some of Hugo Weavings long verbal exchanges, but I would out that aside and just enjoy it for what it is, a vibrant, vigorous film full of vitality which pumps out the volume at high voltage.

What can i say, one of the best movie in a long time, cast, direction,story, is of the best movies of all time. would recomend a very must see.

I was a great fan of the first Matrix film which knocked my socks off. This Idea, taking a British Comic book Idea and turning it into a modern day conception of 1984 is well presented and brilliantly acted. Natalie Portman coming out head and shoulders above the rest. The other British members of the cast like Stephen Fry, John Hurt among others made this a unique format. There is even a scene which pays Homage to Benny Hill, but the stunts and special effects translated from the Matrix to this format work well. The Plot doesn't have an ounce of boredom in it. In fact I would say it was a successful Gunpowder plot. The Pathos, Drama and comedy are well combined to carry off a film which depicts the British government as a dictatorship. The Cinematics are well carried off and has some momentus stunts and special FX which have to be seen to be believed. If you like drama with a sting definitely add this film to your collection.
I would have given Natalie Portman a C for acting and carrying off a roll convincingly before I saw this Movie. After this I give her an A. I am not flustered by a pretty face, in fact in this film they actually shave her hair off.
Overall I would say this was a film that had a beginning, middle and end. As well as entertaining and well performed. I would have liked a few more extra's on the HD-DVD but I would still put this at the top of my Chart for any movie Hi-Def or not.
