Horror-meister John Carpenter teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing.
In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon unfrozen, the shape-shifting alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them...

My first purchase from play was this film on dvd 7 years ago, and i thougt the dvd version was fantastic compared to my vhs version. But the movie comes to new life in HD, it's just amazing how wonderful it looks now. The movie itself is one of the best in the genre of horror.

i allways knew that 'blu-ray' would be the winner, however i didn't see why both formats couldn't co-exist.
in my opinion, visually there is little to choose between them for
the 'hd' expierience currently availabe.
'the thing' i bought a while back, but only watched it on this format in recent times, result :- a brilliant 'hd' transfer, well worth having if you have an 'hd' player of course.
why have i an 'hd' player as well as 'blu-ray' ?
some time back, 'play' were having what was probably a clear out of 'hd' players, the one i bought for around £120, also had '7' free films, i'm a sucker for a bargain.
'the thing' by the way is now also a part of the new 'hd' clear out along with many others at the price of £3.99 each, almost the price of a rental ? ( so you could buy it and throw it if you so wish )
