A fantastic trilogy to own on HD-DVD, the picture is spot on, however you can get better value, here is some reasons why

1. Goto playusa.com
2. Order The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy (5 disc), yes its is the USA release but it is totally REGION FREE & will play on your machine, standalone or Xbox 360
3. The US version of the film is UNCUT
4. It's cheaper
5. The US box set is equal to the 10 disc version available on standard DVD

Like other have said this is a dual sided release. The HD-DVD side has the feature film and some features I wasn't expecting, and the DVD side has the special features you woud find on the DVD versions of the movie.

The features I wasn't expecting was the In-Movie Experience. It's basically like Picture-in-Picture (PiP). So I was pleasantly suprised because from what people have said I was just expecting the feature film.

The quality on all 3 films is great, only problem is the wide 2.4:1 aspect ratio, but I always say that. The box it comes in I thought was a bit strange. Good quality box but the info on the back is a seperate pice of paper stuck on. I would have liked it printed but hey that's not a great problem either.

I bought this to see my fave trilogy in HD. That's what I've got, and a few nice suprises. Not as cheap as some other HD-DVD's but it's hard to find this or the Ultimate collection much cheaper. I haven't had hands-on with the Ultimate collection so I couldn't comment on the differences.

I imported this film on HD DVD from PlayUSA.com and there may be variations from the UK to American versions.

The quality of the HD DVD on all 3 matrix films is outstanding as are the extra features. But you have to realise that all the extras are NOT in high definition, but that doesnt really matter when the main aspect are the films themselves which are.

What you have to also realise is the complete version comes on single HD DVD discs WITH disc art.

The Ultimate Matrix trilogy how-ever doesnt. The utlimate edition is HD DVD/DVD combo discs with NO disc art.

Anyone who wants to question that is welcome to read the reviews at the highdefdigest website in the HD DVD section, where it states that exact same thing....

...and you also have to appreciate that I do own a copy, so I know this for fact. Atleast for the US version anyway and I dont see why the UK one would be any different.

If you already have all 3 Matrix films on DVD then I would recommend getting the complete version and NOT the ultimate one when its released in the UK. You will get a lot of stuff you already own anyway.

this comes in dvd/hd dvd format ie. dvd on one side of the double sided discs and hd dvd on the other. the hd side contains the film and loads of extras including the in movie experiance that warner bros are famus for and the dvd side contains the extras from the dvd realease. so you get 3 discs but it works out at 6 sides so u in effect get 6 discs worth of stuff. great value as i ordered it ages ago and got it for £23.99!!! not the high price it is now. any matrix fan will buy these any way so you know wht u r gonna get. ie Matrix 1 =10/10, matrix 2 =7/10 and matrix 3 = 3/10.

... I doubt you can find two people who can agree about these films.

I used them as my show discs when I had a bunch of people over to see what HD was all about, and it only took minutes before the debate started raging (this film sucked, that film rocked, this bit sucked, that bit rocked etc, etc).

For me, that sums it all up and is testament to their achievement. For every dissatisfying hokey cliche, there is eye-popping mind-stretching spectacle. Which bits are which is a matter of taste, and depending on how they are spread over the films ultimately dictates your viewing pleasure.

For me, having played a lot of Shadowrun as a kid and watching Ghost in the Shell way too many times, the first film only ever ranked as OK for me, but it was the polish, action and silly reality-babble of the sequels that rocked my world and allows me to keep coming back to these films. But that's just my take on it.

Watched back to back (with the first three animatrix films slotted in), this is just great escapist sci-fi cinema, warts and all. HD just heightens the whole experience, even if it's just watching Trinity in all her shiny PVC bullet-time goodness.

Turn down the lights, turn up the surround sound and forget your preconceptions. Just enjoy it for what it is.

The films themselves are great, obviously the first one is much better than the other two. In terms of picture quality, the first film looks very good, but not the best I have seen on HD DVD. Half of the film looks absolutely perfect, but there are a few scenes where there is a lot of grain, more than necessary (particularly the scene where Neo meets Trinity in the club near the start). The picture quality on the other two films however is flawless, as good as it gets. The TrueHD sontrack is amazing on all 3 films and theres loads of extras. Worth a buy definately.

Let's be fair, anybody who thinks these movies as a collective are "one of the best sci-fi....etc" needs there head examined. The first one was awesome, the second one confusing and the third one a tired and predictable bunch of cliches that become nauseating to watch....so let's not get ahead of ourselves.
But in HD, there is something else to be found in this collection.
Just don't expect a truimphant ending.

Yes, you could import the 'Ultimate' version from PlayUSA as Nightjar suggests, but you will likely get hammered by customs and end up paying a lot more in the long run.

Another incorrect assumption is that the version of The Matrix in this set is cut - it is not. The HD sides of these discs are identical to the US releases, right down to the FBI warnings (as is the case with most HD content at the moment). The head butts are intact.

SiScott is also incorrect when he states that the discs have art. They are dual-sided with the HD content on one side and the standard definition DVD content on the other, so no art at all.

Thankfully the UK release includes all of the best features from the Ultimate set and the films look and sound fantastic. The version of the The Matrix included in the set is the same digitally remastered and colour timed version found in the standard DVD Ultimate Edition, and as such looks a lot closer to the sequels in the quality stakes.

One of the best HD DVD releases so far; it's just a pity the price mistakes that saw it available for £26 or less on many sites disappeared rather rapidly!

Great film- all three of them, star wars is nothing - too long, and childish like. This film is for computer minded people, that's why some people don't like the Revolution and Reloaded - you actually have to think when you watch it.
Finally it's in HD!
