We all know the formula; two people, seemingly chalk and cheese are thrown together and take part in many varied and exciting adventures. Underlying all of this is a mutual but unspoken attraction.
Yes, it may have been done before, in fact Moonlighting was of the same era but in my honest opinion Scarecrow And Mrs King rises above the formulaic stereotype.
Simply because of the undeniable sizzling chemistry between the two leads, Bruce Boxleitner and Kate Jackson.
They play wonderfully off each other, There are some delicious comic touches, some in jokes; in one episode, Amanda tells Lee that her friend Kitty Holcomb is coming to stay. For those of you 'in the know', Kitty Holcomb was at the time, Bruce Boxleiner's wife. (he's now married to Melissa Gilbert of Little House On The Prairie fame, while she's now married to Ian Ogilvy of The Return Of The Saint fame ) and some wonderful directing and action sequences.
The late Beverly Garland is superb as Amanda's mostly confused but tolerant mother.
Every episode is filled with subtle little comic touches and downright laugh-out-loud ones.
Buy this and immerse yourself in mystery, comedy and romance. The first season plays perfectly on my Region 2 player, so don't be put off from buying it. It's a truly wonderful series. I will definitely be buying the remaining three series when they come out.
