Rupert Everett (of My Best Friend's Wedding) stars as Francesco Dellamorte, a cemetery watchman whose job it is to slaughter the living dead when they rise hungry from their graves. But following a tragic tryst with a lusty young widow (stunning Anna Falchi in one of three sexy roles), Francisco begins to ponder the mysteries of existence. Is there long-term satisfaction in blasting the skulls of 'returners'? Will his imbecile assistant find happiness with the partial girl-corpse of his dreams? And if death is the ultimate act of love, can a psychotic killing spree send Dellamorte to the brink of enlightenment?

I honestly cannot believe I havent seen this film before, it is a truly interesting bit of cinema. Very gory, zombies, beheading, talking heads! Rupert Everitt is very dashing indeed with an absolute hypnotic performance which borders on the romantic to obsurd. Probably the last great film to b made in Italy before the film market collapse. More people should see this film. Fans of Evil Dead 2, Bubba Ho Tep and Dylan Dog should be pleased with this.

best buy you'll ever make - but how?

This film is as visually striking as it is imaginatively rich and layered - a rare combination (like bladerunner).
It creates a dark, humorous world that Tim Burton only wishes he could produce (to be fair, he did come close with Sweeney Todd), but in this film, their are far more challenging taboos and boundaries being analysed and deconstructed - all within the framework of an Elyptical, fairtale-like nightmare (Pan's labryinth is the only thing that compares)
the director Michael Soavi has been cutting his teeth on superb thrillers for decades under the tutorship of his metor - Dario Argento - but with this film, his masterpiece, all bets are off. its a magical cinematic feat that only Talent, dedication and largely Chance can conspire to conceive. Unfortunately, there is no Region 2 DVD,nor has it ever been screened in the UK, bar once, so you'll provbably have never seen it before. Shame.
