Comes complete with the RothDock meaning - thanks to the wireless receiver built into the base of the CHARLiE speaker - a wire-free connection between your docked iPhone and iPod and the speakers ' they can be 15m apart. In addition, with the USB input and the auxiliary input, these systems will work with anything you like, but specifically computers, laptops, etc., where your music is likely to be stored. The CHARLiE 2.0 is an active (powered) two-speaker set-up (2) with wireless dock for iPod/iPhone.

The CHARLiE 2.0 system comes complete with the RothDock meaning - thanks to the wireless receiver built into the base of the CHARLiE speaker - a wire-free connection between your docked iPhone and iPod and the speakers ' they can be 10m apart. In addition, with the USB input and the auxiliary input, these systems will work with anything you like, but specifically computers, laptops, etc., where your music is likely to be stored.

The runaway success of online music services, such as iTunes and Spotify, means more and more music is `trapped` on flash drives and hard drives. This all makes fine sense' until you listen to tunes via the speaker systems generally found built into the sexy-looking, but increasingly compact Mac, PCs and laptops.

The resulting audio from these built-in speakers tend to come ladled with ASBO-deserving treble, search in vain for convincing midrange, and are utter strangers to the valley town known as Vocals. "Enter stage left CHARLiE 2.0".

There is nothing more disheartening than having your favorite artist sound like they are singing behind the band ' let the CHARLiE 2.0 bring them to the front of the stage as originally intended.

The RothDock is also officially both a `Made for iPod` and `Works with iPhone` certified product, so there is no need to adjust your iPhones settings to `airplane mode`. Turn It Up.

Not really a complete Wireless system!

The Postives:-
Great Sound
Great looks
Speakers in one room while the docking station can be in another

The Negatives:
The speakers are connected by wires, so can't be put too far a part.
You need two power outlets, one for the docking station and one for the speakers.
The wireless signal interfers with any wireless internet, so you can't browse while listening to music.

 Good Idea, Badly Done

First off, the build is top notch. You feel you are getting a decent piece of kit, and it certainly sounds good.

The problem is that the wireless link between the dock and the speakers interfered with my wireless internet, so I could not be online at the same time as it being on. I tried everything and ended up calling the Roth support line for advice. I spent half a day trying to get it to work, to no avail. Shame, as I really liked the look of it, and like I said, it sounded great.

For a piece of kit designed to work with computers, this kind of interference is a massive problem. If you're not bothered about having a wireless internet connection at the same time as using it, go for it.

If, like me, you wanted to listen to music whilst working on your computer, best avoid.

 Dissapointed

Well, firstly let me start by saying I cannot comment on the wireless ipod dock, as I haven't used it and that isn't why I bought these speakers. The first thing i noticed about these speakers is the weight, or lack of it. For 200 pounds speakers (original price on first release), they should be meaty and weighty, these feel light and any weight in the speaker is made up from the plastic casing not what's inside (the important bit). I bought these because Roth make high end Hi-Fi speakers and trusted that they would make decent desk top speakers too, and as I just want to listen to streamed radio and films when I'm at my desk I thought these would be perfect. I paid 38 pounds including delivery from Play.com (Not 200 ponds), but even at that price I feel let down by their sound quality. I didn't want a huge Sub in my little office so bought the 2.0 (not the 2.1), and I'm VERY dissapointed. The bass is minimal, to the point where there is hardly any at all. They also sound very tinny, the sound quality from the speakers is merely average. If I had paid 199 pounds for these I'd be sending them back to Roth demanding a refund. As I listen to them now I am becoming more frustrated that I didn't go for a different option. I appreciate that the sound is coming from the computers sound card and so it is never going to 'Fantastic', but the sound from the speakers sounds hollow and shallow, and i'm sure that has nothing to do with the sound card. I will make do with them for now, perhaps they will grow on me, perhaps I will be replacing them with something else in a few months, but either way, even at 38 pounds delivered I cannot recommend these speakers. Roth, if you are reading this please don't insult our ears with inferior products (at originally a way over inflated price). In fact, I'm going to be emailing their customer service department now to share my thoughts....... Do yourself a favour, buy something else....
