Step up to Sony's long-awaited, high-end MDR-XB700 Extra Bass headphones. Engineered with an oxygen-free copper (OFC) voice coil for clear sound with no degradation, these bad boys were destined for handling high power (3000mW). You will also appreciate the circum-aural, closed-design ear cushions, padded headband and of course the enormous 50mm Extra Bass diaphragm driver units. Includes a carrying pouch to protect your investment.

Three sizes, one goal

Let the bass drop. Whether you choose the 30, 40 or 50mm drivers, all Extra Bass earphones share the same mission: Deliver big, booming bass.

Seriously low frequencies = Serious bass

To achieve dramatic bass that really moves you, headphones need to produce ultra-low frequencies. As the chart suggests, Extra Bass headphones crush the likes of normal headphones with low levels that make all the difference.

The mind behind the bass

When asked what inspired the unique style of the headphones, designer Jun Komiyama said, "When I saw a puffy, luxurious, huge sofa I thought, 'Now that's what I want.'" He envisioned a handmade-like heaviness and high-quality impression that's clearly evident in the final result. Mr. Komiyama's main objective was to create a shape that would appeal to lovers of bass-heavy club music and hip-hop. One look at the king-sized ear cushions and you know what's in store.

  • 30mm driver units
  • Exclusively engineered by Sony, the extra-large 30mm Extra Bass diaphragm driver units accurately reproduce ultra-low frequency sounds and deliver powerful, deep bass reproduction.

I'll keep it simple;

If you listen to alot of Hip-Hop, Rap, Drum & Bass or any genre of music that consists of a heavy bass, then these headphones are more than perfect.

Lovely bass
ear pieces extremelty comfortable
Design is slick & "cool"
Love the flat wires.
excellent price for a pair of Sonys.

Listening to any other non bass music sounds rubbish (E.g rock)
The headband feels fragile & will break at any moment.
The Sony X-Bass MDR-XB300s dont come with a carrying bag, like claimed.

Overall, if you're a bass junkie then they're are perfect, a rock fan should go with another.
They're extremely comfortable, but have a fragile feel to them

For the £29.99 Play.com is offering, i would give them a try. (Well, i already have..You know what i mean)..

Great bass, but that's about it.

If you listen to nothing but bassy music go for it, these headphones were made for DnB. But for anything else they aren't great.

When I used these to play video games I got a headache pretty quickly. I was expecting it to sound like my other headphones (Sennheiser HD 215) but with some louder, bassier explosions, instead every single noise was accompanied by a low rumble that got annoying after a few minutes.

Build quality is very good and they're extremely comfortable. The best thing about them is the noise deadening, once they're on your head you're practically deaf to the outside world, making your music sound even louder.

Although these only get used when listening to one music genre, I don't regret buying them at all, they are great value for money and are exactly what they are advertised as.

 not good

these are very average headphones, bass is not good as they say it is plus they are waaay too big which makes you look like a dodo, waste of money buying em shouldve paid extra and got better ones, youre better off buying the Sennheiser CX300 II Precision which are quality!!!

These headphones are amazing if listening to dubstep, hip hop or anything else where bass is involved, incredible!
The ear pads are comfy and the bass is really good, even at a low volume.
If buying for films or music where the bass isn't so involved then the sony XD 200's are probably a better buy for you, if you want bassline then definitely get these!

The over all build of these headphones is not something to worry over they seem tough and sturdy, the cord is a good length for portable devices that go in your pocket, at 1.2m. the comfort is above anything else in it's price range. the sound quality is just fantastic nice and bassy, loud and clear enough for any type of music, not as bassy as what some have said though so dont be scared off, its not overbearing (if you like your bass). btw i use a sony nwz-e436f mp3/4 player so perhaps they compliment each other very well, i dont know what an ipod would sound like with these.
