 Nice camera shame about packaging

The camera was a birthday present for my son, and he has only used it for 1 day. First impressions excellent. It's a good looking camera, with slim compact metal body, nice big LCD, quick focusing, and lots of features. Camera is easy to use and pictures sharp. I have removed a star because the delivery packaging was poor. The camera box simply put into a plastic bag with a delivery invoice. No markings of "fragile" so it must have received some punishment from the couriers and the cardboard box was well battered by the time we got it. Camera appears fine, but the box gave the impression that it was a used product. Not a good impression when it is for a present!

Can't go wrong at this price. Even the kids take excellent snaps. easy to stow, light, menu's easy to to follow logic, does more and more. Love the slide show feature - hook straight into TV and replay on the big screen automaitcally with (ok, awful) music ;-)
THe downsides - being really mean now -
1/ why no decent case with the camera?
2/ why no bluetooth to cross connect with the family camera phones - pic to camera to MMS
Recommend buy a decent memory card - 16 gig min - you will never run out of space for photos plus get some decent movie clips - the movie quality & sound is terrific
IF you are disappointed you are a pro and shouldn't be looking here! The rest of us will be delighted.

After weeks of deciding between this and the Canon A3000IS, I eventually went for the Lumix. Its a great looking camera, very sleek and cool. The display is big and displays in true colour.

Build quality is good although I was expecting this to be a full metal body but its just front thats metal.

Picture quality is very impressive and handles low light environments very well - Probably due to a decent Leica Lens combining with Panasonics CCD technology. A nice selection of resolutions to choose from (I'm currently using 5mp).

Movie quality is great and is captured in 640 x480 30fps.

There are a couple things that could be better. On/Off is controlled by a traditional switch rather that a button or a spring assisted slider switch. This is the same with selecting between capture and playback. Another minor issue is that when you select movie mode it does not revert back when camera is powered off.

Overall extremely happy with the performance for the price. However like the previous reviewer the item came in a plastic bag which doesn't seem adequate enough for such item....sort it out Play!
