5 Incredible Performance and Low Light CaptureEddieMcDowell | 12/10/2008 | See all EddieMcDowell's reviews (1)I have to say that after working with the Nikon D3 I was expecting Canon to have to step up to the mark with the 5D Mark 2. One day after Canon announced this new camera I popped along to my local Calumet to see about ordering one. To my amazement there was a Canon Rep there who had one in his hands. I was given a full presentation on the product and was able to use it hands on. The full frame is excellent. The low light sensitivity at 6400 is even better than the Nikon D3 and as a videographer I have to say I havent seen better video quality in high deifinition from a camera unless you go to around £50k. The camera itself is very light but feels strong and fits into the hands nicely. There is also a new menu system which avoids having to use the annoying buttons on the top of the camera every time you want to do something simple. The screen on the back of the camera is extremely sharp and when you zoom in on a picture it seems to interlace the display and then shapen it very quickly almost like when a web page is loading. With 21 mega pixels you are able to shoot a landscape photo and take a portrait from it. Quite amazing. Finally I took the camera into the darket corner of the shop and shot in almost darkness and foung the images to be noise free and crystal clear.I have to say that I own canon and am a canon man through and through, however being a wedding photographer I have been looking at the Nikon D3 for its low light capabilities and until now was actually thinking of jumping ship selling my lenses and moving over. Not any more. The 5D mark 2 is better thean the D3 and blows the 1DS mark III away. The only sore point is the price with pre orders on the internet around £2399 for body only. Then of course you find it here on PLAY . COM with the great 24 to 105 F4 lens for £2499, a bargain. To conclude. For those starting out in the field of Wedding Photography, this is the camera. High resolution, super low light sensitivity. The best hi def video I have seen and a great screen and new menu system makes this camera currently the most advanced and best on the market. If you use the 50mm 1.2 lense with the 5d mark 2 you get fantastic portraits with the background completly blurred out. Try it. This camera is a gem.Get in the queue now.
