With a conventional digital camera or camcorder, many users are understandably reluctant to film or shoot in the rain or other wet environments, for the obvious fear of causing water damage to the camera. The VPC-CA9, however, has earned the highest possible IEC 60529 waterproof rating-IPX8-allowing users to capture high-definition (1280 x 720-pixel) 30 fps footage without worrying about the effects of water or snow. The VPC-CA9 is operable down to a water depth of 1.5 meters (5 feet).

With Sanyo's advanced waterproofing technology, this camera can be used without thinking twice in the rain; for marine sports such as surfing or snorkeling; or for winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding. The VPC-CA9 keeps up with active lifestyles, expanding the scope of shooting opportunities. It offers the enhanced functionality of 9-megapixel still images-a world-first for a waterproof HD Dual Camera. The waterproof Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA9 Dual Camera is usable year-round and is perfect for activities on the go, regardless of whether users are in the city, by the sea, or in the mountains.

 Excellent!!

Bought this to replace a sony HD camcorder which produced AVCHD files that imovie can't process (without being converted) and the H.264 files this produces import straight into imovie and produces great results. Not 1080P but 720P gives good colours and definition and 9MP stills, 16GB card gives over 3 hours of HD footage. Overall a great camera at a bargain price!!

 Totally satisfied!

I was slightly put off at first by some negative reviews I'd read but after taking the plunge I couldn't be happier. For all the features its got the price is a bargain. I bought this primarily for snowboarding and watersports and its brilliant for both. Solidly built, compact and packed with features.

Yes the picture quality isn't quite up to other HD camcorders but they're at least 50 quid more and not waterproof. It's difficult to find a camcorder with more features and HD for less!

 Terrible quality

HD?! No chance! This is nowhere near as good quality as my sony HD camcorder, and the still images are far worse than the snaps I take with my sony ericsson camera phone. I sent it back after two days of complete dissapointment. I guess it is fine if you havent yet sampled far better quality products, but if you have then stay well clear of this inferior product.

i got this camera for holidays and such. the quality in good light is brilliant and the underwater fetures are a great bonus and gave hours of fun by the pool. in poor light, like all camcorders with a small lense, the quality is poor. there is lots of noise on the picture and it is very under exposed. dont get me wrong, for the price this isnt a problem. the problem is at 13 months old after only moderate use it decided to die on me. after some internet reserch i found that the cable connecting the screen snapped (a comon problem it turns out) the cost of getting it repaired by Sanyo is almost as much as the cost of the camera
