Cheap for DAB but sound quality and build is poor.

When I saw the picture and specs, I assumed this was the guts of the Technika DAB-108P (no longer sold) in a different shell.

With my Technika having died after 2 years of good service, I thought at 50% lower price I was onto a winner. The buttons were the same layout, the features and user guide seemed identical.

That's where the similarity ends, I'm afraid. The build quality is poor, the buttons are wobbly and the sound is atrocious, no matter what EQ you set it to.

I've got a pair of Sennheisser CX-300 II headphones which make the cheapest mobile sound good, but somehow this Goodmans managed to make even DAB sound like it was broadcast via a baked bean tin and string.
Imagine a multiband EQ set "flat" across the spectrum, then knock out all the mid and top except for a couple at the bottom-end so it sounds all woolly. That's what "megabass" sounds like.
It's the audio equivalent of flicking over to Babestation then realising you're watching what almost certainly used to be a guy gyrating a load of cellulite at you.

The reception is dire - we live in a "tricky" area for both DAB and FM, but whereas the Technika and my mobile manage it, the Goodmans struggles. And at least when the DAB signal reached the edge of the "digital cliff", the Technika just glitched and did the "boiling mud" effect, so you could still get the gist of the sentence with speech, or it was mildly annoying with music. But with the Goodmans, it actually mutes the audio for about a second.

Finally, it eats batteries ridiculously fast. I could do a 3 hour walk with the Technika, the Goodmans had eaten the same high-power premium Duracell NiMH rechargeables in just over an hour. And when it runs down, instead of just turning off, it keeps trying to restart once a second until the batteries are totally flat, which made my digital charger think they were defective. Although I revived them in an old standard charger, I'm pretty sure the radio shouldn't do that.

I'm only giving it as many as 3 stars because if you're near a transmitter, need DAB and don't care too much about quality, this would actually be quite good value.
But in all other respects, it's rather poor. If there was any reasonably priced portable alternative and I hadn't already scratched metallic plastic on the extremely thinly coated battery cover, I'd probably have sent it back.
As it is, it works, I suppose. That's about as glowing a recommendation as I can give.

 very poor product

I bought this product due to the price. But i had to retun it within 2 weeks as it broke. The DAB screen crashed, you couldnt read the screen, and the reception was very poor, as soon as you moved about you lost the signal.
And it states that the batteries last 10 hours when using DAB, but i used brand new Duracell batteries and they didnt last 5 hours.
I would avoid this product and sepnd your money on something better.

What do you want for under 25 quid?

I bought this product in the new year. I use rechargable 2600mah batteries and they last for about 18 hrs. The sound quality is good for the money. I have read the other reviews and the bad reviews are nothing like my experience of this product. What do you want for under 25 quid anyway? If your expectations are of home stereo or ipod qulity then you may be slightly disappointed. Go buy an ipod for 3 times as much money.
