Be sure to buy a real Humax 1Tb model rather than a modified 500Gb. The one I got is 100% Humax.

You just plug it in to the power, TV and satellite leads and it just takes you through set-up without any problems. You have to input your post code but that is about it. The remote control is well laid out, though it has to be pointed directly at the device. (I wonder if fresher batteries might improve things.) All its features are intuitive.

After set-up, you can go down the list of all the channels, highlighting all the ones you don't want and you can then press delete to get rid of all of them at once (unlike my Sony TV where they have to be zapped one at a time).

The only annoyance is there are a few channels that you might want occasionally but you don't want them cluttering up the TV guide most of the time. There is a favourites feature but this requires a few more buttons to be pushed. My suggestion about this type of device (and TVs) is that, when you press the TV guide button, there should be a list of your favourites with an option at the bottom of the list to expand it into all the channels, favourites or not.

I am slightly puzzled that with only two leads from the satellite I could watch one programme and record two others at the same time, but I am not complaining!
Other bonuses compared with my 5 year old Humax Freeview PVR is the fact that the TV guide goes a whole week into the future and that now I can record HD. The ability to download programs through the USB connection should also be useful. (28 Oct comment: I'm not sure this is possible with copyright TV programs)

I already have BBC iPlayer in my smart TV but this box not only has this but ITV Player as well, if you plug in an ethernet cable. I might give it a try.
