I have owned an A100 for just over a year now, and the camera still manages to amaze me. I done a lot of research prior to purchasing my camera and I must say, Sony have not failed to impress on this one.

Being their first serious entry, many were skeptical as to whether Sony's offering would prove to be a worthy contender to the Canon and Nikon dominated market. However Sony use Konica Minolta technology behind their D-SLR range with their own image sensors.

The results of this partnership are incredible, but I must admit, the camera is by no means flawless, but then again, every product has a weakness.

The alpha is a well built camera, feels weighty although it is debatable from person to person as to whether this is a good or a bad thing. I must admit, when a zoom lens is attached, it can get very heavy especially when hung round the neck.

The image quality you get from this camera is great, and the controls allow anyone from experienced users to play with the settings, or complete novices to switch it into "Auto" and shoot away. The CF adapter bundled in with the camera allows you to use a Memory Stick Pro Duo which is also handy.

In low light when shooting with High ISO (800+) things can get noisy but there are software solutions out there to help reduce this and there is also an option on the camera to help reduce noise too.

The shutter can be a little noisy when compared to some other camera's on the market, but with shutter speeds ranging from 1.4000th of a second all the way up to 30 seconds, it sure provides the ability to shoot great pictures in all situations.

This camera also provides in camera image stabilisation which is usually left up to the lens to provide. This helps reduce the potential of blurry pictures due to shaky hands.

I bought this camera to learn how to take great pictures, and I certainly have taken a few. I have recently shot a wedding as the official photographer and used a Canon EOS 400D as a secondary camera, and the Alpha came up trumps.

Not only did the battery outlast the Canon (it still had more than 50% at the end of the day) but the images captured were much sharper and provided more faithful colour as the Canon tended to "warm" the images.

I am currently thinking of buying a secondary body if I get more work and I am in no doubt that I will be buying a Sony Alpha....
