Sennheiser HD 407 Open Headphones

I got these hoping they would be an open version of the HD202s, so might sound a little better and less tunnelled. However, these sound significantly more congested than the HD202s and more rounded off, so the open design brings no benefits to this style of Sennheiser headphone.

The bass level is quite similar (higher than neutral), but the treble is even more rolled off than the HD202s, which is already a little rounded off. My advice is to pay another 5 pounds and get the HD202s (or the EH-150s which sound identical IMO), which are much clearer and more open sounding. Also, with the closed models you get much less sound leakage.

Note that these don't come with a 3m cable as stated, but a 1m one with no headphone adapter.

So the HD407 phones are average when the HD202 or EH150 headphones are excellent. Note all models discussed have a slightly recessed mid-range. But for this price, you will find it hard to get this much bass elsewhere.

I have just bought the 407 headphones and they have an excellent sound quality, I had read reviews that the bass was muffled but I didn't find that at all, they have a really sharp sound. They are very comfortable to wear and easily adjusted by sliding the muffs up or down. I am sure you wouldn't get a better pair for the money or even a lot more money than this.

these are amazing headphones Especially for a tenner i would quite happily pay at least 60 quid for these amazing sound... i use them for all sorts tv , ipod, my nokia c6 .... sounds great on all of them. good for ps3 gaming e.g black ops can hear like a good pair of turtle beach ... great product .... must buy :) just ordered some for my mates as they are impressed

I just bought these headphones to replace a pair - the senn 201s -that my son has borrowed. It was only going to be to listen to stuff from my laptop but I thought I'd try them out with my mp3 player and I was ASTOUNDED! I was pretty happy with my shure 210 which cost around 50pounds and are decent enough but this pair of 12pound phones has blown those and every phone - creative 630/830, fontopia, senn px100 - completely away. I think Im going to have to spend at least 100 pounds to hear a better sound than this.

I had even stopped listening to music over the last year and now I cant stop going thru the entire collection.Its true when people say they are hearing stuff as if its the first time. Its TRUE!. I would have been happy as larry if I had spent 50 pounds on these phones but to have got them for less than a CD is outrageous.

Perhaps the bass could be tighter as its pretty deep and boomy but I love it. Don't bother with any more research - just buy these now!

I was a manager of an electrical shop for 18 years and we sold a lot of headphones. I have always rated sennheiser no 1 though very expensive. thease headphones are fantastic value at 12.99 and the quality is really very good and very comfortable fitting, no one could possibly fault the overall product considering the bargain price.
