I bought this to go with my new Nikon D5100 DSLR. I have lots of 4GB Play.com branded SDHC's but they are class4 and I wanted something for quick capture and also more capacity to make the most of the HD Video recoding feature on the D5100.
I went with a known brand this time. The Play.com ones are fantastic but for the extra 3 pounds I thought I'd get a PNY one to try it out.
Capacity rating is just space really. It is what it is; so the best way to test the card is to perform some continuous shots on the DSLR. This card is brilliant. After taking 10 continuous shots in top quality JPEG settings, each picture appears on the quick preview screen within half a second. There is still a slight delay but not much.
I compared this to my Class4 4GB Play.com SDHC cards and on said card it takes well over a second for each picture to appear, so the verdict: This 16GB PNY Class 10 SDHC card is faster than a 4GB Play.com Class 4 SDHC card! (obviously).
That wasn't the best comparison but either way, this card is very fast. I don't bother with DSLR software for my PC, I just connect the card directly and drag off the photos (I open RAW format in Photoshop). The transfer speed between the card and my PC is very very fast. Having this quick class 10 card means I can transfer multiple GB of photos in a few 10's of seconds rather than waiting multiple minutes as I had to do with class 4's. Also, I can work 'live' from the card, previewing and deleting files on the card before transferring. This was awful with a Class4 due to delays in deleting and opening photos directly from the card. With this Class10 card I can work as quick as I can working from the PC's hard drive.
A brilliant choice of card for a DSLR. Tons of capacity that if just used for taking top quality JPEG images, should easily last you a whole holiday and also has easily enough space for a few days worth of RAW format photography. The speed is great, not only with taking burst shots on the DSLR but also transferring the photos to your PC.
It is far cheaper at 15.99 on play.com than anywhere else so what are you waiting for?
