Brilliant piece of kit

The only negative for me was that the wireless made the streaming a little slow, but to be fair my router is the other side of the house, so if your router is going to be near this box it shouldn't be a problem.

If like me it is an issue, play.com do adapters that you plug into your mains to enable a LAN cable to be used

Everything else is wonderful, and I thoroughly recommend this, it adds another dimention to your viewing experience!

Cool box of tricks to instantly upgrade your TV!

Bought this device for my Dad who is a complete technophobe but he wanted to start using BBC iPlayer to catch up on his favourite shows. I couldn't manage to get him to upgrade his decades-old set to something more modern so I found this device to be the best solution.

The media player has a whole range of connections that should make it work with just about any old television and also has wireless internet connectivity which I found to be a doddle to set-up. The menu system is very easy to navigate and apart from BBC iPlayer there is a whole range of other video services to choose from, including catch up TV from Channel Five, Lovefilm, YouTube etc. I also like the USB port at the front which allows you to view back photos and videos on your TV.

OK but suggest reviewing other options before buying

Should have read the details more carefully as this only gets BBC iPlayer and Ch 5 programmes (for now at least) not ITV and Ch 4. Box is small and neat. Remote could be better laid out in my view (no QWERTY keyboard so "typing" to search for, say, Youtube clips is a pain).

Works reasonably OK with my slow broadband (c2Mb). Watched some programmes without a problem; others stop every now and again while the signal catches up which is frustrating. Probably time of day related so not ideal for those who do their viewing in the evenings.

I would suggest anyone looking for a product like this does more research than I did to ensure the spec meets their requirements.

Note to other reviewer - review the product not my review. I said what I said and stand by it. The product should support ITV player and 4OD on launch and it doesn't therefore not as good as a player that does. The remote if not great. 3/5 seems fair as it stands

Great piece of kit, plays most video and music formats straight off a USB stick or HDD, the iPlayer app is awesome, as is the video on demand. High build quality that you would expect from Sony. Take the previous reviewers comments with a pinch of salt - it is well publicised that ITV and C4 aren't supported (yet); don't knock the device for your inability to read...
