I purchased this to replace my Sony RDR-DC100 which in my opinion was a horror. My main reasons for buying this was for the Bravia Sync integration with the rest of my Sony Home Cinema equipment and for the dual hd freeview recorder.
I was not disappointed, the Australian Grand Prix really showcased its abilites and the broadcast looked absolutely gorgeous live and when played back from the hard drive. The tv guide is crisp, easy to view and very good.
The unit itself is relatively small and the front is unobtrusive with only a power button, 2 recording lights and a white power light and a hidden usb port/reset button keeping you company. The fan at the back is smaller than the rest of my Sony equipment and whilst I don't notice it in my living room, it may just catch the ear of someone operating it in a bedroom.
Why only four stars you ask? Well it does it's job well but doesn't go above and beyond that, at the time of writing there is no bbc iPlayer or any online connectivity. There is also no preview window when reviewing content that has been recorded to the hard drive.
For anyone with other Sony equipment there is no 'Home' button on the remote control or menu styling which is found in the PS3 or Sony Bravia TV's, there is a more basic menu but everything is easy to find and admend as required.
It has operated without fault for me so far and in that respect i'm happy that i'm not waiting for Sony to release a glut of firmware updates.
