The Icecrypt T2400 Freeview HD PVR not only boasts all of the features of Freeview+ HD - pause, rewind and record live TV - but builds on them with multimedia functionality.
Incorporating a massive 2TB Western Digital Green Power hard drive, that not only allows up to 1000 hours of Standard Definition /500 hours of High Definition recording, or a mixture of both, but also runs cooler, quieter and more economically than other HDD types.

High Definition images are crystal clear - up to 5 times sharper than Standard Definition, but don't worry - SD channels are also up-scaled to 1080P (if connected by HDMI) to offer the best possible picture quality for all of your favourite programmes.

Never miss anything again; with two tuners you can watch a programme or recording whilst making up to two recordings, and with series link you can record the entire series at the touch of a button. Series recordings are conveniently placed into folders, and you can create your own folders to organise the whole family's recordings.
If you do manage to find four programmes shown at the same that you want to record and one of them is being shown at a later time the T2400 will automatically suggest the alternative showing for you to record instead, giving you the most flexibility over your viewing schedule.

Not only can you record an entire series at the touch of a button, the T2400 will offer to record recommended programmes based on your viewing preferences!

If you can't remember the name of the programme you want to record use the Search By Keyword or Search By Genre functions.

Schedule your recordings up to 8 days in advance with our extended electronic programme guide (EPG), which displays five channels at a time in easy to view hourly time slots.

Featuring a 16 digit alphanumeric Vacuum Fluorescent Display which scrolls through the channel name and number or menu options as you navigate. Control the receiver with the click wheel and buttons on the front panel.
With two USB ports (one front, one rear) you can connect an external hard drive or memory stick and play back your DivX and MKV files on your TV. Playback options include start from the beginning or start from where you left off, fast forward/rewind at up to 64 speed and jump to a bookmark or percentage.

The USB port can also be used to transfer recordings from the T2400 to your PC (subject to copy restrictions).
The T2400 also plays other media types including MP3, AVI and JPEG, allowing the receiver to act as a media centre for all of your movies, photos and music.

Use the LAN port on the receiver to connect to your PC and transfer all of your home media files to playback in upscaled glory on your HD TV.

With full support for Subtitles, Teletext, Interactive features and Audio Description the T2400 ensures everything is available at the touch of a button.

Icecrypt t2400

I bought this unit to replace a humax 9150 expecting to have much improved functionality and features, being a newer product with a list of features advertised. I quickly realised my error from first use of the icecrypt, and can advise of the following issues i experienced;

Recording/playback/EPG
At first glance the recording and playback features seem fairly straight forward however whilst attempting to watch and record simultaneously created a very jumpy and stuttery picture/sound especially when an HD program is involved. I also struggle to accept the fact that if you are watching a program live whilst also recording the same program you lose the time shift features completely, eg no ability to pause or rewind. Another annoying quirk of the icecrypt is that the menu and EPG are not available whilst viewing a recording, and any attempt to access simply stops the playback completely.
Using the find by genre feature also has an issue where there are lots of duplicate entries listed eg a film at 9pm then another entry at 9 pm on exact same channel with a blank title.

Screen/display
Another issue noticed is that this unit is incapable of stretching 4:3 to 16:9 automatically, noticed when viewing family guy or american dad. Icecrypt tech support indicated that 'their' customers have a preference to keep aspect ratio of the broadcast, maybe they do I can't count myself as a customer anymore!

Remote control
The remote is well laid out, however it fails to match competitors features for example there are no dedicated buttons for customised skip forward/backward, only similar feature is the yellow button can skip forward ONLY whilst the time bar for the recording is displayed meaning you need to press other buttons first, and If you skip too far there is no easy way of skipping back. I would also warn that the remote is a click type remote which makes noise on every button press, made even worse by the fact that you need to press so many buttons to skip over adverts etc.

All in all I don't think it's cheap price and high capacity make up for these shortfalls and can gladly say that the humax HDR fox t2 1TB at a little more expense completely delivers all the features you would expect from a 200 pound plus device.
