As with the Clip+, the CIip Zip is an excellent MP3 player.. that is very, very slightly bigger with a bigger colored screen.
I've not had any of the problems as described by others, but then again I don't run the stock Zip firmware much either. But, I've read that the Zip (like the Clip+) can crash when it encounters unexpected file types or corrupted files. Also, Welshnick is right about the sound on the European set-up.. the EU is trying to protect our ears apparently. Too late for some of us EU!!
I suspect that I'm not allowed to post URLs. So, I'll just say: Rockbox, for free and better firmware. :)
Beware this thing is tiny. Sound quality is excellent if you replace the ones that come with the player with a decent set. The main issue I had was the extremely low max volume which after some googling I found out is limited by the EU. Reset it to factory settings and selected rest of the world rather than europe and problem was solved can go loud as I want. Great value
To all those who have rated this badly then I'm sorry that you have had a possible faulty machine but if you install Rockbox firmware on the player, very easy to do via the built in uploader from the website you get much more features than on the original firmware and everything is so much easier. Just look up Rockbox on Google and give it a go.
Sound quality is so much better than Apple products and being so small you can stick it in your pocket easily or use the built in clip.
I like the player colour screen and ease of use but I have just returned my second one back. The first one would not switch on after three week of use The second one died while it was playing after a month. shame as I liked the little player, trying another make Sony which I have just ordered No problem with the service from Play.com when they replaced the first one so I hope this continues
I had two of these. The first refused to display album art consistently. Sometimes the cover would be displayed then the next zig zag lines. The second had the same problem but turned off with 46% charge left stating 'low battery'. Some of my songs had static as well and it would organise the media it's way, no matter how you had done this. Excellent service by Play in getting a replacement then refund. The product is best avoided though.
