The Sangean ATS-909X receiver will not disappoint, it's functions and button/controls are not over designed too, providing a good all-round multi-band radio; LW-MW-FM and SW.

In comparison to the Eton/Grundig range of radios with short-wave bands, the ATS-909X short-wave band is a little less in sensitivity, when using the internal telescopic aerial, however; this ensures much better side-band stop, to reduce adjacent stations bleeding in... but, a supplied long-wire 7 meter wind-up aerial plugs-into the external aerial socket, and improves the overall short-wave reception for those very weak stations, if your into DX-ing long range signals.

Sound quality is good for the size of this radio, with a horizontal operational position for best display screen use. I found the buttons and controls intuitive, without looking up the operational book... internet sites indicate the radio has Digital Signal Processing, to my ears this seems to be the case, and is more obvious at very weak signal reception, hearing low level sampling noise within the background; more important here is the radio's DSP ability to clean-up interference, giving an edge on short-wave reception where other radios simply do not... on a score of 0 to 10, I give it 9.
