Easy to use Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Now FinePix digital cameras are even easier to use! An intuitive icon based graphical user interface confirms shooting modes, scene positions, or control settings with brief explanations on the LCD screen. Easy-to-read icon and text description of the selected mode help you choose and confirm the optimum setting for best results. This takes much of the guesswork out of digital camera operation. With less to worry about, you'll have more fun with your picture taking!
Versatile Scene Modes
No matter what the event or where you travel, the Mode Dial is ready with easy-to-select modes bringing you a simple point-and-shoot camera with automated professional settings. Simply choose a Scene Position that suits the situation and you have the ideal settings for everything from shutter speed and exposure to white balance at your fingertips ready to capture the image. The display of helpful descriptions of each mode and Scene Position make it simple to explore the versatility of the F40fd, and with 15 special scene position modes, including Underwater, Snow, Night and Close-up, the FinePix F40fd is ideally suited to any photo opportunity. When a still image isn't sufficient, the camera's movie mode, at 30 frames per second, captures movie clips with sound that are limited in length only by the size of memory card used.
Enhanced 2.5" LCD Screen
The 2.5" LCD screen has an anti-reflective coating to prevent glare when shooting in bright daylight and offers an expanded screen-viewing angle. If you need to hold the camera over your head for a high angle shot, the wide view enables you to comfortably see and compose the frame, and afterwards, allows everybody to gather around to view the image at the same time.
Convenient xD and SD Compatibility
The FinePix J50 features an xD/SD compatible slot, allowing the use of either xD Picture Card, SD or SDHC media to store and transfer your photos. This will give you the flexibility to buy the card you want, use cards from previous cameras, or choose the media that fits with your other desktop devices like laptops, PDAs or card readers. Up to 2GB supported.
The FinePix F40fd has an Internal Memory too!
The FinePix F40fd makes it possible for you to get that picture even if your memory card is full. The internal memory built into this compact model ensures that you will never have to miss that special shot. Think of it as your internal insurance policy for photo opportunities. With that said, the main storage for images on the F40fd should be an additional xD card, which will allow you to accommodate almost as many images as you like.

This is the most solid camera i have ever purchased. Crystal clear snaps every time and the screen is perfect.
Optical and digital zoon are both great.
I couldnt fault this camera 10/10!!!
I bought this camera when it was 200 quid. It's fantastic. It has a bigger sensor than most compacts - much more important than megapixels. The picture quality is brilliant and the low light performance without flash is the best on the market. This camera has been with me to the top of Mount Valuga in Austria and perfromed brilliantly. Bargain at this price.
I bought this camera at £99.99 but would pay more if necessary. No surprises there for the camera functions and picture quality! I upgraded from a samsung and found it really easy to use and would recommend it to everyone who wants to buy a digital camera.
I was amazed at the Face Detection feature automatically putting a box around faces on a photo, duplicating a picture with flash off/on.
The speed at which the photo is taken produces a still image even if you are taking a picture of something moving at a fast speed in front of it. Also it is small and stylish even better than the pictures shown of it. If you're looking for a brilliant quality camera but not wanting to break the bank for it then go for this, worth every penny!!!!
This is my first ever digital camera, and when I received it I was shocked on how small and compact this thing is.
After charging up the battery, which takes about two hours and you first switch it on you're greeted with the settings menu. All pretty standard stuff in setting it up. Time, date, power settings etc.
After I got through that I took some pictures just to test it out, all on automatic mind you since this is my first camera. Very clear pictures, and I tested out the movie mode too, recorded a 30 second clip which played back really well. But I set the power managment to have the LCD bright and smooth, which will drain your battery alot quicker since it's using more power.
One thing it doesn't mention you get in the contents on Play.com is a silicone case, it's not very much and you'll have to wrestle to get it on and off the camera so I would just recommend you get the special offer Inov8 case with this.
The camera is very easy to use it's pretty much 'point and shoot' and there's not many buttons to worry about.
Connecting it to your PC isn't a problem either. You don't really need to install the supplied software as Windows XP and higher already can deal with this. I have an application on my PC called ACDSee which downloaded my sample pictures I took.
This camera is also one of the prizes on The Gadget Shows competitions (it was about two weeks ago anyway) so if they're giving it away it must be a good camera, and it really is.
I don't know how Play.com managed to get the price of just under £100 but the RRP is £229 it says on here but you're really getting alot of camera for your money here.
I highly recommend people who have bought this to register their product with Fuji. Their customer service seem's really good. When I registered mine I got a letter confirming it had been registered for a year. Alas with all products it's a must to register them incase anything goes wrong in the first year. You also can get extended warrenties from Fuji.
I have only one small gripe with this camera - it's not black, it's silver. But it's easily lived with and not really a big deal. Would of been nice if it was black though.
I'd recommend this to anyone who's thinking of buying their first digital camera or wanting to upgrade an older one.
Thank you to Play.com once again, for a great service yet again.
Got this for the size, functions and settings etc (its not all about mega pixels you know!) Easy to use and with the li-on battery its much better than cameras that use rechargeable ones ! i use this for some action shots and is a trusty (not substitute) back up for my digital slr camera... I would recomend this to anybody !!!
