 Excellent value

This is an amazing piece of kit for the price. Havent had a chance to try out the upscaling yet (as i dont have an HD tv yet!) but the normal dvd picture and sound quality is second to none. you can see where toshiba cut some corners, such as a flimsy DVD load tray and a simplistic digital display, but they never detract from the quality of its output. To top it off mine even came with a free HDMI cable!
Buy it.

Smart looking, well built, upscales normal dvds brilliantley all the way to 1080i, best priced top brand dvd player, what more can i say!

 Not so perfect

Ok, it looks sexy, it has great upscaling....but is really let down on some basic points. I agree with other reviews that good value for money, but note these basic sore points:
1) The display on the front only tells you the scene that you are up to and not the time! - a bit silly if you want to try and return to the exact spot
2)When you press the 'stop' button during a film, or even if you turn the player off, most DVD players will resume from the last spot - not this one! Oh no, you have to start from scratch watching all the credits and piracy ads etc.
3)May just be my particular player, but only had a few months, already seems to jump/skip whilst watchng a film.
Not that I think this is a bad player, but AM SURE there are better players for the money!!

 Freezing here as well

I thought this looked good out the box, even the menus looked better than standard dvd players. Playback was ok but not as good as the upscaling on my Xbox 360 HD Drive and it played (normal spec) Divx files, it recognized the HD type of divx but wouldnt play them.
Then I started using it properly and I started noticing the freezing, it only happens once or twice during a movie but its very noticeable and can be for several seconds at a time.
I wouldnt accept the pausing on a new budget dvd player and im afraid im returning this one, i have no idea how this got the award of 5 stars from the magazine review but they probably didnt have the time to use it properly.
Will be buying a different player, but next time i'll read the users reviews instead of the 'professionals' .

 Let down by one thing...

Out of the box this player looks really nice. Well designed, very compact and neat. Picture quality is brilliant hooked upto HDMI, but this is where the fun ends. On my first viewing the player froze on the odd occasion for around 3-4 seconds then resumes itself. It continues to do this on every disc I play. Not only that, after a little research on this issue it appears it is a very common fault with the machine.

Very bad, Toshiba, how can you continue to let this player sell when I'm sure you are aware there is a hardware problem?
