i have had a few other dvd players upscalers in the past but this in my opinion is the best i have used. I bought this to replace my old hdmi upscaler which had come to the end of its lifespan. It was connected to a projector and produced very good picture but when i swapped them ove rthe difference was very noticeable especially in dark scenes. I have been left impressed by the quality of this player. Compared to my hd dvd and bluray players it is the closest i have seen. I would hapilly pay the 60 pounds this player costs with the quality u get in return.

Can anyone tell me if this newer model displays divx files in the correct aspect ratio, I have the previous model of this, the DVD-HD860. When playing divx files, the aspect ratio is not automatically fixed, so it displays it slightly distorted. These players are awesome for picture quality though.

  Excellent value for money

I purchased this DVD Player after hearing some good things from other owners. I have to say that i'm very pleased with this DVD Player. For the money the quality of the image is wonderful.

Connections on the back are also good, allowing surround sounds to be output via co-ax and optical.

The player can be made multiregion via the handset but the firmware must first be downgraded. This is an easy procedure and many places have the required information.

The only gripe I have is the remote. It is very, very unresponsive.

Apart from this it is definately worth a look if your looking for a low budget but good quality DVD Player.

  Not bad!

I have to admit, I was surprised how good this VERY CHEAP DVD player is. The upscaling quality is great, unless you are playing slightly older DVDs. Newer discs are upscaled perfectly, but I have found that anything older than about 4-5 years, doesn't look great at all. But, all in all, for the money, this is a great DVD player, that you cannot dismiss. There is a ,ulti-region hack for this player that you can do via the remote control, but I was not able to get it to work. Maybe I have a newer model.

The only other gripe I have about this system (I think someone else also brought this to light) is, the remote control that comes with the player is not very responsive at all. Unless you are directly infront of the player it doesn't work too well at all.

So, overall, a good machine, and well worth the money. But, after owning this for 2 months, I am currently looking for something better.

Best Picture output and if you have a Sammy LCD/Plasma than you can get rid of small remote by using samsang tv remote.

Upscaling works great. The only reason I give 4 stars due to its slow remote response.

Other wise this is a great upscaling player in market right now.

just go out and get it.

I have just recentley purchased this product which is connected to my Toshiba 37x3030db tv which has 1080p.
I must admit that when it comes to tvs/dvd players i am a toshiba buyer, But when i looked around the net and read various reviews this baby stood out by a mile. I have only had it a few days so my usage has been limited to date but the dvds i have rewatched have seen a worthwhile improvement (Kingdom of heaven/Casino royale/Apocalypto). It looks good in black and is straightforward to use , Purchase a HDMI cable at the sametime the only thing it was lacking. I would recommend this player to everyone.

  GO GET IT!!

I bought this player because the "full hd dvd players" are a little too expensive at the moment and with the war between blueray and hd going on and on....... i thought with the price being what it is-you cant really go wrong!!Picture quality is very good with newer or re mastered dvd's,older (un re mastered) dvd's basically stay the same. The unit looks sharp with minimum sound from the player during play with no annoying lights to distract you either.Overall the player is great- easy to function, plug and play and watch your favorite films with a big cheesy grin on your face!!GO GET IT!!

  Perfect flat screen companion

| | See all lucasisking's reviews (26)

I got this player as a companion to my spanking new Samsung LCD panel (see my review) and it is a superb choice- particularly if like me you want to wait a while before committing to an HD format player. The unit is gorgeous- looking much more expensive than it actually is- and compliments my set up beautifully.

So down to business: how good is the upscaling? To be honest it depends on the movie (or the scene). But you will definately notice a sharp improvement is detail and definition. I tried it with Superman and Casino Royale and was impressed, and then I tried it with Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Wow. Because this is filmed digitally the picture quality and detail via the HDMI cable is staggering. So much so it's hard to imagine how much better it could get with HD.

If you haven't yet been spoiled with HD/ Blu Ray movies you really will be impressed. And all this for £65.

Just don't forget to buy an HDMI cable!

  Best purchase I've made!

First of all let me begin by making clear that this in no way reproduces HD-DVD nor Blu Ray like quality. However, I'm in a position where I don't really want to start investing in one of the previous mentioned formats just for it to go belly up in a few years, leaving me with a £500 player and multiple related movies etc... So, I decided to wait it out and in the mean time, purchase this little gem. It is absolutely fantastic!! The leap from standard DVD to upscaled DVD is incredible. Your current DVD library is transformed into crisp, vibrant and clear movies that you will want to watch over and over again. Even the sound has clearly improved.
Now I need to say this, all of the above is only achieved by using an HDMI lead which, is not provided in the box. However, this warrants the insanely cheap price of £64.99 and HDMI leads aren't exactly the most expensive components to buy.
Yes, it's not Blu Ray, and it's not HD-DVD, but at £64.99 (excl. HDMI lead) and coupled with play.com's array of £5.00 DVDs, you're on to a winner with this one. Enjoy.

  Very impressive

Arrived yesterday - unboxed and it just works.
I sat in slience when I played the 1st DVD out to my Samsung HD TV, what a difference - the picture quality is amazing.
I'm not going to bother with a 'real' High Def DVD player, this is more than enough, and it looks as slick as the matching TV.
Only thing you don't get in the box is a HDMI cable.
Anyone with a Samsung TV, your TV remote will controll this too.
