After deciding to invest in a plat panel tv I spent nearly two weeks doing exhaustive research and shopping around- and finally settled on this model.
I was originally going for a 42" screen or higher, but let me tell you- this 37" screen is absolutely HUGE! When mounted on a flashy LCD stand, it dominates you lounge. First impressions are: wow. That's even before you turn it on.
Negative points- the user manual isn't that helpful. It took me ages to find out how to set up the freeview channels (which is actually dead easy by the way). The freeview image is fine (depending on the broadcast quality), but be warned: Analogue tv picture is absolutely atrocious so don't even bother with it. The remote is also beautifully designed but the buttons aren't very responsive so press hard!
DVDs (via upscaling player) look sensational. Particularly digital movies like the Pixar or new Star wars movies. Revenge of the Sith looks practically HD quality- I kid you not. DTV quality is also good but beware a little judder in fast moving scenes (typical for LCD screens). The picture in picture feature is brilliant too.
The game mode is useful in that it reduces the backlight to a softer level, which is good particularly if you have a less powerful console such as my Wii.
All in all, lots of features (most of which I haven't explored yet), great picture, sound & connectivity and a stunning looking unit. DVD performance is where it really shines.
Competitive price should seal the deal.
