I used to use my xbox 360 to upscale my DVD's.. i was so impressed with the picture quality I bought a dedicated upscaling player (samsung 1080p7) compared to the 360 the picture was terrible on my samsung.. pixilated and grainy..old DVD's of tv series were almosr unwatchable!!! the menus were basic.. the picture adjustments were more of a hassle than they were worth.. i had some faults with the player too, DVD's sticking for a couple of seconds between chapters, completely freezing from time to time too, picture vanishing for a few seconds.. screen and sound juddering altho these faults didnt happen all the time i totally lost faith in the product.. in the end i returned it and got a sony HDMI upscaling player which is amazing.. altho only 1080i the sony beats the samsung by a mile and now i can watch my older DVD's and they look much better.. i cannot recommend this samsung DVD player

Got this DVD player about 5 months ago, and its impressed me ever since. I have it in my bedroom hooked up to a 23" Samsung LCD TV with an HDMI cable (you have to get this seperately for about a tenner). There is a really bright red light that's always on when on standby which was annoying until I put it in a cabinet beneath my TV as it was keeping me awake.
The HD upscaling is definitely noticeable in my opinion too, well worth the money.
It's really nice to look at too, with a sleek black finish, and also nice and slim.
I also use the same remote as my TV to control it which is handy but the "Skip Chapter" buttons aren't on the TV remote - the fault of Samsung's TV not the DVD player.
It takes a while to respond to the remote and you have to point it right at the DVD player for it to work. (It does this with both the DVD player's remote and my TV remote.)
Overall, it produces a great picture and it looks really nice BUT the remote control response time and angle is pretty bad so I'm going to have to deduct a star for this. Thanks for reading.

I got the 1080i version of this Upscaling DVD player a while back on here, which i think is no longer available and which i purchased for £64.99.....and it was worth every penny and i don't regret it. Have hooked it up to HDMI to my 1080i TV and Coaxial Audio to my Logitech DTS system. The sound is awesome and it really upscales them well through HDMI, i can't remember the last time i watched ANYTHING on a Standard Def TV. And wow with this 1080p version its a perfect upgrade to keep your current DVD collection still worthy, cos lets face it who is going to update their entire collection with Blu Ray when its available? If you win the lottery maybe? Anyway, i highly recommend this if you don't have an upscaling player yet. You can't go wrong with this, especially for only £49.99. Ontop of that its Samsung. Top quality.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy! - No need for HD-DVD players.

This DVD Player with FULL HD up-scaling is something else. I put in "Smokin Aces" which is non-HD, and lone-be-hold, it was near enough 1080ppi HD quality!!!! - The Quality on this little baby is STUNNING from what features I have tested. The zoom features have alot to answer to, as screen fit slightly streches the picture - which is to be expected, but it does it in a distorted way. - not the end of the word, as zoom is optional. The control is standard nothing fancy, just what you need. The outer-casing is made from a light thin metal, and then the display is covered by a apple-like black shiney finish. The displays digits are green in colour, and the power button has a vivid ring of blue light around it when the DVD player is active, this then fades when the DVD player is left alone.

DON'T FORGET: This player DOES NOT come with a HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is optional, and the player wil work with normal video leads (red, white, yellow), although for the sake of a £10, i'd pick one up.

Overall, if you need a DVD-Player but don't fancy paying the excessive price tags for "HD-DVD-Compatibility" then this player is for you. GREAT BUY, Thanks Samsung!

I couldn't decide wether to buy this or a blu-ray player, but with sony messing about changing the player profiles I decided to go for this player instead. What a good choice, I may not even bother buying a blu-ray player now.
But I did spend 50 quid on a HDMI lead (Monster 400 also from play).

Bought this player to go with my new Samsung TV and bought a HDMI cable with it... Works amazing well and using the HDMI cable makes a real different. Although it isn't HD it makes the film look all smooth over the large screen and really makes a difference. Plus the anynet features on this and the Samsung TV works well together.

You have a Samsung flat screen with HDMI this is the player you need.

This samsung dvd player is great! It upscales excellently. It is a slight improvement on the Samsung DVD-HD860 which i also own. I have only managed upto 1080i as this is as high as my samsung LCD TV is capable of. The Divx playback is very good but can take a bit of time to load on some occassions.
The remote control also controls my tv (Volume, Channel up,down only).
This player is also multiregion capable (Same Hack as DVD-HD860) which was very easy to do via the supplied remote.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars A great investment and a bargain

This player is a superb investment for anyone who's just bought a new HDTV but still has hundreds of DVDs that they want to watch. I use this player with a Samsung 40" 1080p LCD TV and a high quality gold plated HDMI lead and the end result is stunning. Not as great as HD-DVD or Blu-ray obviously but pretty damn close. Blu-ray might have won over HD-DVD but I'm not convinced Blu-ray will take off because not everyone can afford the players or a PS3 or even an HDTV to play it all on. The one downside to this player is no scarts or HDMI leads come in the pack so make sure you have one already or buy one at the same time.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars dissapointed

Bought this player to compliment my 40" hd 1080i lcd.
Found player to freeze or blue screen and some jagged edges in movies like Kong. Samsung you could have done better, you got the experience. I did make it multi region with a hack.
Then it could be the hdmi cable i bought of Play. A little dissapointed
