I recently bought a new 42" LCD TV and thought I would upgrade my DVD player as well.
I saw this and bought it mainly for the price. Not only is it a great price but the difference in quality is amazing. East to set up, just simply plug in a HD cable and you are ready to watch.
Very pleased and as always the delivery and service for Play is first class.
Buy it, you won't regret it!

Hello i have been reading the reviews for this player and its the best you can get for the price and what it does but with the new Sony DVP-NS708H DVD Player coming out soon is it best to wait for this or buy the Samsung player?

I couldn't decide wether to buy this or a blu-ray player, but with sony messing about changing the player profiles I decided to go for this player instead. What a good choice, I may not even bother buying a blu-ray player now.
But I did spend 50 quid on a HDMI lead (Monster 400 also from play).

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars GREAT ITEM, GREAT PRICE

Got this DVD player about 5 months ago, and its impressed me ever since. I have it in my bedroom hooked up to a 23" Samsung LCD TV with an HDMI cable (you have to get this seperately for about a tenner). There is a really bright red light that's always on when on standby which was annoying until I put it in a cabinet beneath my TV as it was keeping me awake.
The HD upscaling is definitely noticeable in my opinion too, well worth the money.
It's really nice to look at too, with a sleek black finish, and also nice and slim.
I also use the same remote as my TV to control it which is handy but the "Skip Chapter" buttons aren't on the TV remote - the fault of Samsung's TV not the DVD player.
It takes a while to respond to the remote and you have to point it right at the DVD player for it to work. (It does this with both the DVD player's remote and my TV remote.)
Overall, it produces a great picture and it looks really nice BUT the remote control response time and angle is pretty bad so I'm going to have to deduct a star for this. Thanks for reading.

I got the 1080i version of this Upscaling DVD player a while back on here, which i think is no longer available and which i purchased for £64.99.....and it was worth every penny and i don't regret it. Have hooked it up to HDMI to my 1080i TV and Coaxial Audio to my Logitech DTS system. The sound is awesome and it really upscales them well through HDMI, i can't remember the last time i watched ANYTHING on a Standard Def TV. And wow with this 1080p version its a perfect upgrade to keep your current DVD collection still worthy, cos lets face it who is going to update their entire collection with Blu Ray when its available? If you win the lottery maybe? Anyway, i highly recommend this if you don't have an upscaling player yet. You can't go wrong with this, especially for only £49.99. Ontop of that its Samsung. Top quality.

Bought it along with a 37" 1080p Samung tv, works great.

Remote is easy to use, connects automatically to the tv once you switch it on.

Just buy a HDMI lead to use it to its full. Only comes with the 3 av wires (yellow, red and white cable)

Absolutely love my new DVD player - it does everything! On a whim I chucked in CD-ROM in it with a film on it in .avi format. It played it full screen with a great picture and sound. The upscaling on normal DVDs is excellent as well. Im off to see what else it can do!

I purchased this as its one of the few players at this price offering divx, dts and upscaling to 1080p, on the plus side, great picture quality, especially of upscaled material, nice stylish build and an excellent dts performer.
However, I found two problems with this player, firstly, it doesn't play the majority of my divx discs unlike my much cheaper toshiba sd270, and it has a tendency to freeze with some divx discs.
Despite the faults, its a useful bit of kit until the price of blu ray players comes down.
